After seeing a quick glimpse of the new Cadillac flagship during one of the Oscar’s ads, Cadillac’s President Johan de Nysschen went onto Jalopnik to answer a few questions.

It immediately spiraled into the speculation of the flagship CT6’s powertrain. While De Nyschen played it close to the vest, he did divulge some interesting tidbits about what engines we could see in the new car.

According to de Nysschen, he stated that the twin turbo V6 found in the new ATS-V would make its way into the new flagship, as well as a turbo 4-cylinder and a twin turbo LT5 V8 which was a complete revelation.

We’ve known about the existence of the LT5 for some time, but we didn’t really know anything more than its name. Now, according to the CEO, the LT5 stands for a turbocharged V8 which will most likely be the car’s top tier engine.

If we want to speculate, the current LT4 makes around 640-660 horsepower from the factory with its supercharged stature.

The new engine will likely have a few less horsepower, unless Cadillac goes for a twin turbo setup, which then could have quite a bit more. The higher horsepower figure would definitely put it much more in line with the Mercedes S63.

Hopefully, we won’t have to wait that much longer to take a look at Cadillac’s upcoming luxury car. Especially since it will most likely debut at this year’s New York Motor Show.
