Cadillac Convertible is Uncovered

2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept

Oh geez, Cadillac’s new found success is going straight to their heads. After the rumors of the Elmiraj coming about were finally confirmed, a new rumor is spreading through the community saying that the brand wants to bring back the Cadillac convertible.

The rumor suggests that Cadillac will either develop  a ATS convertible that was always planned since the cars inception, or a secondish generation for the XLR. The ATS convertible might be ok, by for the life of me I can’t think of who would buy one of these except for old people in Florida, and that can’t make that good of business sense.

Heck, the ATS convertible was originally supposed to launch with the car, but Caddy shelved the idea almost immediately. I just can’t see the company making its smallest car a convertible.

What Cadillac needs is a large convertible, maybe based on the upcoming Elmiraj concept, now that would be awesome.

Second, and for those of you that don’t remember the XLR, it was a hopeless flop. Much like the ELR, the XLR didn’t sell. No one wanted to spend the money on a Cadillac version of a detuned previous generation ‘Vette. It was a recipe for disaster, and one you would think Cadillac and the people at GM wouldn’t be in a hurry to repeat.

Right now these are only rumors, but I sincerely hope that they end at just that. Cadillac is seeing the brands resurgence, they don’t need to go back to the ways of old GM anytime soon.
