Jay Leno and the ICON Derelict Buick Super Convertible

For me, resto mods are the cream of the crop. They’re just perfect things. Classic good looks, but with modern drivetrains that allow for easy usability and comfort. It’s just the best of both worlds.

However, a trend known as Derelict Cars are fast becoming a huge statement peace in the industry. Think of them as rat rods blended with resto mods, and you’ve kinda got a vague sense of what these cars are.

On today’s Jay Leno’s Garage, Jonathan Ward from ICON stopped by with his 1948 Derelict Buick Super Convertible. And while the exterior doesn’t look done, or rather it looks like it has a heavy patina, everything hiding underneath that gorgeous body is all new and hugely impressive.

For instance, the drivetrain comes from a Corvette ZR-1, however, it’s been tuned to put down a whopping 700 horsepower. Which is plenty when wanting to move around the big Buick through traffic. Take a look.
