Rock Your World with these Cruise-worthy Camaro Songs

By -

Camaro fans love to debate which generation is best. The first-gen model has pure, classic proportions. The second takes on a dramatic lean, muscular form. How ‘bout the third-generation’s weight reduction, fuel injection, and aggressive front end? We could be here all day.

Instead, can’t we all get just along? Come to some sort of agreement on things? Perhaps sing a song or two? (No, it doesn’t have to be Kumbuya.) We just happen to have a few here that we know you’ll like, organized in chronological order:

“Bitchin’ Camaro” by The Dead Milkmen – The Dead Milkmen is a satirical punk rock band formed in 1983, and they still rock out to this day. In this song, released in 1985, Jack’s parents bought him a new bitchin’ Camaro, and the over-privileged teen is amped to tell his friend all about it. In fact, the excitable, fast-paced lyrics repeat the word “Camaro” a total of 16 times. Listeners without an understanding of satirical humor, beware.

Best Lyrics:

“When I drive past the kids,

They all spit and cuss,

Cause I’ve got a bitchin’ Camaro,

And they have to ride the bus.”

“Camaro” by The Cyrcle – Released in 1967, this was the first song written about a Camaro, but only those who remember the commercials will recognize the tune. It was a promotional single made exclusively for Chevrolet, and the group disbanded shortly after the song’s release.

Best Lyrics:

“The answer to all the dreams of men and their machines is Camaro…

Riding softly by,

Climbing to the sky,

Racing to the sun,

When the day is done.”

“Camaro” by Kings of Leon – As this song plays through my speakers, I envision an attractive young lady pulling up to a stop light beside a handsome, no-nonsense motorcyclist. He glances her way, and she notices. She smiles, and as the light turns green, she blows him a kiss and hits the gas, leaving him bewildered. It’s the perfect, sensual blend of southern rock, blues and alternative.

Best Lyrics:

“So cool in her new Camaro,

It’s black as coal and it goes boy, it go, go, gos.

She looks so cool in that new Camaro,

So black as coal and it goes, don’t it go, go, go.”

“Go Lil’ Camaro, Go” by the Ramones – The Ramones keep it simple (per usual) with girls, cars, sun and fun, the epitome of the Camaro, in their brash punk rock hit, “Go Lil’ Camaro, Go”. As anyone can agree, it’s a car that makes good times for everyone.

Best Lyrics:

Come on baby shake,

Come on baby move.

Come on baby, let’s shake,

Come on baby move.

Go lil’ Camaro go,

Ooh,

Go lil’ Camaro go,

Ooh.”

“Johnny’s Camaro” by David Wilcox – David Wilcox tells stories through his Folk music. This song is about a young man named Johnny who loved his Camaro more than life itself. Wherever he parked, he demanded two parking spaces. His girlfriend travels to Africa, and he gives her rides to and from the airport. It’s a beautiful tale about materialism and change.

Best Lyrics:

“And he’s looking at her like,

‘Will you get your feet off the upholstery!’

The upholstery, the upholstery. She forgot. How could she forget?

Well, she’d been in Africa, come on.

She took her feet off the upholstery.

As a matter of fact, she took her feet off the upholstery politely.

As a matter of fact, she folded her hands in her lap

And she settled in for this ride.”

“Red Camaro” by Keith Urban – It’s a “boy meets girl and goes on fun road trips” type of love song, and I can’t tell if he loves the Camaro or the girl more. One thing is for certain: They make a striking combination.

Best Lyrics:

“Your lips around a Coca-Cola,

One hand on the wheel and your head on my shoulder,

And some things just never go out of style,

Like you and me together,

Staring at your legs on the black leather,

Of my Red Camaro.”

“Red Camaro” by The Rascall Flatts – It comes out of the stereo like a lightening strike. When the narrator turns his head to see a red Camaro, a storm of memories floods his mind. It brings him back to the better days of cruising with the music pumped up and the T-tops off.

Best Lyrics:

“Turn up the music loud,

Take the T top down,

And let the chrome shine,

Cruise along the river side,

Feel the wind blow,

Through your hair through your toes,

Got your bare feet hanging out the window,

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.”

“Rock My World (Little Country Girl)” by Brooks & Dunn – This girl rocks Brooks’ and Dunn’s world, and she happens to have a T-top Camaro, as mentioned in the beginning of the song.

Best Lyrics:

“She’s got a T-Top Camaro with a scoop on the hood,

And two big speakers blasting Johnny B. Goode.

Looking so sweet it oughta be a crime,

She plays with my heart and messes with my mind.”

“Yellow Camaro” by Brian Bell/Weezer – It’s a tribute to the Camaro in poetic form. One of their rarer songs, it was written in 2002 for a Weezer recording, but instead an altered version ended up in singer-songwriter Brian Bell’s side-project album, Space Twins. Unbeknownst to Bell, it was also released as a bonus track in 2010 album Death To False Metal.

Best Lyrics:

“When the wheels of motion move fine,

God bless the U.S. assembly line.

It’s a game when you play with high octane,

It’s the pace of the race you were following.”
