Default How much to paint my whole car?

I did a search but didn't come up with anything. I am thinking about buying a car but I don't like the color. How much would it cost to paint the entire car the stock black color. I know it varies from painter to painter and the quality and everything but what would be a good general estimate? Thanks.

My place quoted me about $2500. I'd expect anywhere from 2500-3000 for a good quality paint job. Whatever you do don't go to a **** place like Maaco or something..lol

A god job will cost about $4500.00 A great job about $6-7K. Anything less than $3k, you are getting screwed. You wont be happy with the results. My opinion buy a car that is already the color you like. Thenlike he said you can mod it with the money you were going to spend on paint.

I honesty dont care about my paint job, which is why I'm going to maaco for a nice cheap $500 paintjob on my 68 C10 ratrod, which is like their premium top dollar job lol. My Z28 paint has tons of nicks and scratches on it and a small patch up front where its peeled off and I will be going to maaco to redo it whenever I have extra money for beautifing it which will be after H/C...etc...performance stuff.

I'd almost tell you to do all the sanding yourself, but it is the biggest pain in the ***..I've spent about $500 total to repaint my car and that includes paying someone to come paint it. Of course one of my friends paints cars for a living.

i dont think it should cost more than the car but it depends on what kind of prep work. 2-3k seems okay. id find a trustworthy painter and discuss what all he'd do

A lot of the cost depends on how thorough you go. Changing colors will mean the door, trunk, hood jambs will not match. You also have to factor in the labor to pull all the lights, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, lock cylinders, the glass etc. If you can do some of that yourself, it'll save you money and the paint job will be a lot nicer since the right prep was done.

speaking of Maaco, what makes their premium paint job so bad compared to a local body shop $2800 paint job?

Brand of paint can make a big difference in price. If it is from the local paint store it might be in the 2500-3000 range. If you us PPG or Duplicolor you can add at least another grand or so....color pending. You also have to take in consideration all the dings and any prior work done. Most shops are going to make you pay to fix it all so the paint does not crack or "wave". Any prior work will also be redone...usually. This is so someone elses repair does not ruin their paint job.
