Default Need turbo recommendation LQ4/9 6.0

Hi guys, new to the board
I could use a single turbo recommendation, I am building a 6.0 LQ4 or LQ9 (I currently have both motors, haven't decided which one to use) for my 72 chevelle. Motor will internally stock (for now) with a turbo friendly cam, pushrods and comp 918 springs. I am looking to make 600-650 rwhp on methanol injection, pump gas. I am on a limited budget (arent we all in one way or another!) and was looking into getting a Master Power turbo from modular turbo. I was figuring a T70 with a .68AR would be a good choice for my horsepower goals, considering this is a street car and I dont want to wait forever for it to spool up. Would a t76 be too big? Room to grow would be nice, if it didnt' delay the spool to badly. If you guys could give me a recommendation for a turbo I would greatly appreciate it. Also, what motor would be better, the LQ4 or the LQ9? Both motors are 2007, with less than 5k miles. Thanks!

Default One more thing

Will be front mounted turbo, with air-air intercooler. Thinking similar build to Parish's turbo fairmont, but with 6.0 and 2 bar map / GM factory injection with larger injectors and tune?

LQ4 because it's got lower compression with the factory dished pistons.
T76 will be better on a 6.0 at that power level than a T70. You'll be about tapping out the T70, especially with the .68 turbine AR, that would be good for a rear mount (that's what I had). Pick up a 76 with a .96 turbine housing, so it'll still run nice and efficient. I think you'll be surprised how quickly it'll still spool up front on that 6.0 especially in that heavy *** car! *wink*

BTW - Twin 255 pumps, and 60lb injectors will get you right about 600whp.

Default thanks

Thanks for the reccomendation. I thought the 70 might be a little small for the 6.0. Anything negative about master power turbos? The price is right, and they seem to work well considering the price. I know they're not ball bearing and liquid cooled, but this car is a weekend warrior / saturday night cruiser, so daily wear and tear isn't a issue.

You'd be surprised how many turbos aren't ball bearing and/or liquid cooled. Oil cooled is sufficient for 90% of turbos out there, and they're cheaper. Ball bearing turbos will spool faster, and generally last longer, but a ton of people use standard bearing units and they last for ages! I loved my MP T70, but I wasn't shooting for anything over 500whp, so it worked out great with the 6 speed and 4.10's out back. You'll be VERY happy with a 76, and I personally recommend Rob @ Modular Turbo, he's a sponsor here if you haven't run across any of his posts.

That's the one. I'd still call Rob @ modularturbo, he'll get you a better price.

From my experience, go with the LQ4, and go here
http://www.forcedinductions.com/productsborgwarner.htm
get the S400-75, 1.10A/R, T6-83 for $599
I had the bigger s475 and it was a bit laggy, but that one is not and will make you 700whp no problem, is the most reliable turbo youll find, and cheap. You should be able to make 600whp on pump gas whith that turbo/LQ4/ on pump gas with a intercooler easy

****, I may end up tossing the twin turbo setup to get one of those. Those things are CHEAP as hell! The S400-80 would work on my application I think, won't make 1200rwhp, but I'd be happy with 800+ LOL.

Hell, my Buick GN powered T/A would easily spool a 70mm with a .63AR, so I would have to agree with the above recommendations on a higher AR and larger turbo.

Default Borg warner

The price is definetly right at 599. The LQ4 and the lq9 I have are both equally as nice.....but I just got another LQ4 this morning out of a 2007 H2 with 500 miles on the odometer, carfax verified salvage cert. It was a movie vehicle, they pulled the drivetrain and used the body for a "off the cliff" explosion scene. Engine looks like it just came off the assembly line. It has the later model L92 style water pump, and what looks to be a gen IV timing chain, even though it is clearly a GEN III motor. Looks like this will be my lucky candidate!

I think I'm gonna get an S400-80 and call it a day. Change of plans, at least I didn't buy a TT intercooler (DAMN, just shipped the single intercooler today!) or the turbos. If spool is an issue, let it sniff a 50 shot to get'er going.

BTW - You lucky ***, a new freakin LQ4, assembly line style! Where the hell are you getting these?!

Default Motor supply

I have a yard local to me, they give me pretty good deals cause I usually get a couple at a time. I swap them into hotrods, musclecars, etc. They have 2 more just like it, they are going for $1500 each, with under 1,000 miles. They had 3 movie hummer H2's total.

Damn, wish I could score a deal like that! LOL I got my LQ9 Longblock that was in a fire with 15k on it for $800, needed to be rebuilt because it had water in one of the holes. Picked up an LQ4 longblock for $1500 that had 40k on it. Are these longblocks or complete units?

Intake to pan, with all injection, accessory drive bracket, and manifolds. No Harness or computer. I can get the alternator, P/S pump and water pump for an extra 100 bucks. Pretty good deal

I can do a package deal on the turbo (MP or BW), WG, and BOV that will knock your socks off.

I've got a Turbonetics TC76 for sale. Made 655/650 on a forged LQ9 370 at 18psi. This was also on an unlocked coverter. The turbo is just broke in as it has less than 1k miles on it. It is s spoolin monster and hits full boost by 3200rpms and just keeps pullin. Retails for 1400 new. PM me if interested.
