tired of that cracked and broken dash then fix it...


how to fixed your cracked dash pad to look brand new!

OK here it is.

Vinyl 2 yds your choice of color

spay adhesive was $7.99 at Advance Auto Permatex Heavy Duty blue and orange can.

Plastic welder epoxy $4.99 AZ and we find it at Walmart $2.88, after I had already opened it..sucks

1. you need to fix the broken part of the dash with the plastic welder


2.I used cardboard and epoxy to glue the cracks back together, sand the plastic then patch the crack permanently
the cardboard adds great strength to the already strong glue, not pretty, but this will never be seen anyways.







3.SPRAY ON adhesive!, follow directions for max strength. Spray both vinyl and dash pad 2 good coats. let dry for 5-10 mins until tacky, then press on firmly. TAKE YOUR TIME, start in the middle and work you way out getting all the air bubbles out( hair dry works great)



flip over trim edges leaving enough overhang



now with the over hang I used a hot glue gun to hold it down works great and drys fast..



trim the rest to fit and finish folding over the flaps,







brand new dash!!!


The best part of this vinyl is that its flexible, and will withstand direct sunlight while providing support for the cracked dash underneath.
Enjoy your sweet newish dash pad without the cracks!

also with the left over vinyl you can pretty much wrap anything in the car,

I just cut around the vent (with a razor) leaving a little extra to hand over and be pushed down, the bars are not coved in vinyl, I didn't think about trying to do them until it was to late, it maybe possible to do them it would just be real time consuming

oh i see. looks so sweet i can't wait to do this. i wonder how suede would look? how is the shine on the vinyl? you know how when you drive around and it's sunny the glare coming off the plastic is horrible lol

I saw this over on FbodyOnline. I would LOVE to do this, but I can't find any vinyl that matches the dash perfectly and I don't want to have to wrap the whole dash.

My only complaint with the adhesive is that when it gets REALLY hot out, the glue seems to loose its tack. I had my radio bezel wrapped with the strongest adhesive money could buy, and it still got droopy and lost its tack in the summer heat.

I guess if your in an area where it doesn't get over 90 out it's very worth it.

Not sure if it would work any better, but I install formica (the stuff on counter tops) onto walls in apartments all throughout Georgia and I use DAP contact cement. You can buy it at any hardware store and I use a paint roller to apply it with. I have only had a handful, out of hundreds, that even tried to come off the wall. Just thought it was a possibility to look into.

X2. Ive gone through 4 glues now, and still havent found anything thatll last the summer here. This past summer it topped 100 for about a month straight. I wrapped some things using 3M spay glue, and that lasted only a couple of days in the summer. Switched to the glue that Specialized Stainless sells, and that did better, but still came loose, especially around the edges. Some others have had luck with 3M fastbond, but I havent been able to find it around here, or online. I thought it was just me, but I had my dash professionally recovered, and that lasted maybe a month in the summer before it started to come apart. <shrugs>
