First time out on 408 motor.
Hey everyone, Finally got to the track with the new motor.
It was over at Bradenton Motorsport Park. Temp was around 81 degrees. Very breezy as you can see in the videos. Unfortunately the wind was blowing down track not helping anyone I'm sure.
I took it easy the first run and then punched it the second. It was the second run we realized I was smoking out the tail pipe. But after going back through the videos you'll see I was smoking at the top of the rpm on all three runs. Track wasn't showing the times on the board.
Ended up running:
11.523 @ 117.64
1.614 60ft.
We couldn't figure out why I was smoking at the track. Engine ran fine the whole time and I drove 55 miles home afterwards with no issues. It was only smoking at the top of the rpm band and as you see it does it the worst on the second run and only at the end of second gear. I was told it's blueish white so it has to be oil.
I built the motor with the piston rings pretty loose in anticipation of going nitrous later so I'm sure it's a mix of blow by and the catch can not able to stop the pressurization of the crankcase at wot. The intake is a bit oily when I checked the next day. Also my catch can was full when I drained it so that's my best guess. I'll put a one way breather on the oil cap so that at WOT it will open to the atmosphere and relieve pressure along with the breather on the catch can. That should help relieve crank pressure. If it keeps it up I'll have to look at a vacuum pump or something.

I'm thinking with calmer air, oil burning issue resolved, and a harder launch, I could get an 11.3 out of it. I have a Circle D stall...was brake reving the engine to 2.5k before punching it and it hooked every time. Next time I'll try both dead stopping from idle and brake revving higher to see if I can cut a better 60. Tires were 255/50/16 mickey Thompson street radials.
Videos are here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a5k...ature=youtu.be 2nd run against a 5.0 mustang, was my fastest run.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0R1...ature=youtu.be 3rd run against a 2000 T/A Stock minus an SLP air lid.
My buddies T/A with a procharger ran similar times and he put down 470/475 on a dyno so I'm assuming similar numbers for my setup.
