As most of you know, Im going to be putting the 847 cam and spraying a 150 shot of n20 on my 132,000 mile, never been apart engine till it goes. Just wondering since I got the car with 120,000 on it and dont know the previous history, whats the best way to clean out the engine and remove any gunk or buildup inside?

I've used Seafoam in the past, just wondering if there is something better or use this in addition to something else?

When its done, i plan on giving it a good tune up with new plugs and wires (i think the MSD ones are starting to crack) and then filling it with Royal Purple synthetic oil.

Any thoughts?

I use Seafoam, and when I pulled my engine apart after I spun a rod bearing, it was really clean, especially for a 225,000 mile engine that wasn't driven nicely most of it's life. I also only used Mobil 1 full syn oil.

One thing to keep in mind is if the motor has only seen conventional oil its whole life, there is a good chance synthetic will loosen or clean up sludge formed around seals and gaskets and then seep through most of them.Happened when I had 75,000 miles on mine with mobile 1 synthetic oil.I was ignorant at the time about synthetics and older motors but I have since went back to dino.

Product called AutoRX, you have never heard of it because it ACTUALLY works and the company spends money on R&D instead of advertising.

Looks like you would be more interested in a big name than a useful product though.

I've seen good results running new oil with 1 quart of ATF in place of 1 of the oil and draining that after a couple weeks of normal running or 500 miles whatever comes first, gotta remember that ATF is basically a 10 weight oil with alot of cleaners/conditioners....

These days ATF has LESS detergent in it than motor oil.

ATF can do some cleaning just by being thin, but then you might as well just get some 0w-20 or 5w-20, easy to find because Furd and HonDA spec it.

Diesel oils actually have high detergent levels.

yeah thats why people use diesel oils to break in there new short blocks. marvel mystery oil im sure will help clean up your engine good. i ususally run alittle bit mixed in with my mobil 1 10w-30. after my cam swap tho i might switch to a 40 weight oil.

There's a "clean-out" product/system called "Run Rite". It's similar in concept to Seafoam.

Auto RX is what I would recommend. Great product
