Default 1998 vortec 350 timing

Does anyone know how I can make a PID for hptuners scanner or find one so that I can see the Cam Retard Angle so that I can set the timing on a '98 1/2 ton pickup since there are no marks for timing.

There are no marks anywhere on the motor for timing. The manuals say connect a Tech2 and view cam retard angle then adjust the distributor 'till it shows a value of 0 +/-1

I bet if you email hptuners they can add that pid into the scanner since it is something the techII shows.

I just had the problem on my '98 L31....Pulled the distributor without marking it thinking it was set up like my '91 camaro OBD1. Little did I know. EFIlive has a PID for it which worked like a charm once I figured out which one it was.

But while searching for a solution at the time, some one did say that the distributor it's self has a "#1" mark on it. Put the #1 cylinder at TDC and pull the distributor cap. Then just stab the distributor so the rotor is in line with the "#1" mark (or just turn the dissy if you never removed it in the first place). If you are still getting the code at that point, turn the distributor slightly to time. You need to rev above 1200rpm for the code to reset. There should be a +/- 2* window to prevent the CMP code.

If you didnt mark the distributor when you took it out, then yes you have to get #1 cyl. on tdc of the compression stroke. The distributor has an arrow on it where rotor should be pointing when it is installed correctly. Then if you have a scan tool, (mac, otc, snap on, matco, ect.. or if efi live has a pid for it) set the cam retard to + or - 2*. But you have to have some sort of scantool. You cant set it with marking the balancer. And as 99transamls16sp said after you move the distributor you must snap the throttle above 1k to reset the displayed data.

I understand how to do it, I just dont have a scanner that shows that pid. I just have hptuners and it does not have a pid for it.

you will have to find a buddy that works at a shop with just bout any scantool and then you can get it set.
