i hope you're not talking about using stock springs....spend a little money and have them cut for new springs and the lift.

You can use the 02-04 Z06 yellow springs with comp 787 retainers. You don't have to machine the guides for more lift if you use this spring and retainer.

i have already changed the springs so that is not a problem i was just worried about the pressed in rocker studs i have heard that they can hold up to .500 lift but have never talked to anyone with experience with that

You could go old school and pin 'em. This can be done without the need for any other machine work. Screw in studs would be best, but this is an option. I PM'd you with a tool that you can use if you decide to go this route.

I doubt the studs are gonna be as big of a handicap as you think, however screw in studs are the best bet.

I have a 350 with vortec heads... i am using the zz3/4 cam (smaller than the lt4 hot cam) we were going to go with it but we had gas mileage in mind so we went with the zz4.... i have an edelbrock eps intake with a carter 625 carb... hooker headers... true dual exhaust... and a built 200-4r tranny... i ran a 8.07 @84 in the 1/8th its a very strong motor i would reccomend the lt4 to anyone and that might be what i go with this winter

Its not only the springs that need fixing on vortec heads...the valve guide needs to be milled down as well b/c the retainer WILL HIT THE GUIDE nine times out of ten on anything over .480 lift.

Not enough clearance will result in broken valve springs and if not figured out in time will lead to a dropped valve and a motor only good to be an anchor.

sorry i should've phrased my question a little better, i've heard of people going to .500 with these springs with no problems, but then others saying higher. i'll probably just pony up and buy the tool and then just do them myself, got at least one more set after these to do...

Crane had a spring and retainer package that had a part number of cra10309-1. It would allow you to run a bigger cam on a vortec head with out having to machine the guide. You can look it up on Scoggin and Dickey site but it says part is no longer available. If you could search around and find a comparable spring to it you might be able to find something to work.

uhhhh the size of the cam has absolutley nothing to do with pressed in studs pulling out. its how much open pressure your valve springs have.

the springs will be fine. you will need some valve guide work done so the retainer will clear for the extra lift.
i ran the lt4 hot cam my heads were brand new at the time of build. so i took my heads to my engine builder,he checked the heads for me and springs.he said i was good up to a 520 lift.
that little motor was a bad little bitch
