Just like the title says, any good recommendations on drag radials for GTO's? i have the 245/45/17 wheels. i want to get an idea what everyone else has had sucess with.

I run 275/40/17 Nitto 555R drag radials. They are narrow enough to fit on my 17s without any body rub. BARELY. They hook great. Especially for A4 cars. M6 cars are starting to go with a Mickey or different DR that has a softer sidewall to absorb the shock during shifts to prevent wheel hop. A4s dont have to worry about that. Once my tire life is toast I'll be buying another set of the 555Rs, they are a great performer and a great street tire to fly around on if you plan to use them full time. Dont DD them though as they are 100 tread wear rated and you'll be buying tires all the time. If its your weekend car like mine though give them a shot.



PS: Change your sig, 05-06 GTO A4s came with the 4L65E not the 60E

I run Nitto 275/40 R17.

Be aware its about a 50/50 chance you'll get rub. I don't but my rear cradle is aligned. One of the GTO suspension experts stated about 50% of the hundreds of GTO's he's personally seen have the rear cradle aligned improperly from the factory. This will result in rubbing.

I don't like my nittos. Same technique on a same day I'll either cut a low/mid 1.7 or roast the tires. They are pretty inconcistant for me.

I run them all summer long (got over 8K miles out of a set)

stay away from nittos as they only work for stock cars and low power cars.

for the stock rims you have 2 choices for the best drag radial

275/40/17 MT ET streets or Hoosiers

MTs are better for DD use since the hoosier pretty much has no tread and would suck in the rain and might get you hasseled by the cops for "low tread"

i run 275/35/18 BFG drags which are the intermediate drag radial but i still seem to spin them at 30 psi on the freeway at over 65mph. i am going with 265/40/18s MTs for my next DD set.

At your power level the Nittos should work fine. They aren't quite as wide as the MT or Hoosier 275s either so there's less chance of rubbing. I've run 275 Nittos, MTs, & Hoosiers without rubbing but YMMV. If you go with a cam or spray in the future you may find you need more traction than the Nittos will provide.

I ran the Hoosier's for a while and really liked them. I went to 15" wheel set up and went with the Mickeys. Both great tires

I ran some nearly bald 275 Nittos last weekend. First time at the track with the cam and they were dead hooking, as long as I got them nice and hot. I was only launching at 3500 but it was falling on its face boggin hard out of the hole. Too big of a puss to launch at 5k, but from what I experienced they do pretty well. Eventually I'll go to a full slick to absorb some of the beating on the driveline.
