You'll need fuel injection quality fuel hose to connect the Dorman quick connects to the old steel fuel lines. I cut both the pressure and return lines about 2" before the factory filter location. Use the rubber fuel injection hose to connect to the new filter. Use 2 hose clamps on each end of the new connections. It's best if you use the hose clamps that have a smooth stainless steel liner to protect the hose. You'll need about 6 feet of hose to connect from the filter to the fuel rail if you have an extended cab. The outlet side of the filter will require the male fitting be cut to about 4"-6" long from one end and then push it into the fuel hose and double-clamp it.

Back from the dead....i know.
I've been researching swaping an ls1 into a mustang.
I don't understand the fuel system. I figure you guys could explain it to me.

I know people are using the the corvette fuel filter to regulate pressure.
Why the the vette filter have two inputs and one output?
Is a musatng a returnless stlye fuel system? What is an ls1?

Sorry if they're dumb questions but I really don't understand the fuel systems yet.

The GM Fuel Injection has a send and return line. On just about all of this newer LS stuff there is a single inlet on the Fuel Rails. At some point the send and return lines have to be joined to where there can be only one line going to the Rails.

This Vette Filter/Regulator is nice because it does that, regulates the pressure down to normal operating pressure, and it also sends back the excess fuel in the return line. The only thing about it is you need a male-end coming back out of it to go to the Rails. I had a custom line made for my application, some places make that part to do the job.


I don't know about the Mustang stuff..I just know how to beat em..

Ok, I think I figured it out.
Fuel goes in one side goes through the regulator and the excess fuel goes out the other side and back into the tank. right?

Yup..pretty much. In on the outer line, out to the Rails on the other end, and back to the Tank on the inlet side on the center one.

What's the benefit of running this corvette style regulator compared to a 2-line system that's got a send & return going to the rail with a regulator on the return? Is it just a matter of simplicity & cost? Is one superior to the other in terms of fuel delivery?

Simplicity and Cost and most newerLS engines only require a supply line at the fuel rail and do not have a return line at the fuel rail.

Is this typically installed near the motor or near the tank? If I wind up running new fuel lines, it's obviously beneficial to mount this near the tank... which raises another question... what kind of horsepower levels can this support? I'm still trying to figure out whether I can get away with stock fuel line or if I need to upgrade to a larger diameter... plan is 450rwhp and if I get brave I might add a 150 shot down the road.

I have mine installed about 10 inches from my fuel tank, I have (2) hoses 3/8 that are about 12 inches long going from the filter to the tank and (1) hose about 13-14 feet from the filter to the fuel rail. I am only at about 375 RWHP and have not experienced any problems so far. I do not know how much HP this setup will support I am sure a lot of other factors come into play such as injector size, fuel line size and pump size and the tune installed in the vehicle.
