Default Broke into 12's pretty much stock 98z

Super stoked today my old worn out z28 goes 12.82 1.889 60ft and 107.83 mph backed up with a 12.83 1.932 60ft and 108.09 mph. mods are nt05r's, free mods, chrs1313 ram air, slp air lid, hooker muffler, viking coilovers, and umi tq arm + lca's.

Was stuck in 13's the last 2 trips to the track. 13.07-13.13 106-107mph with 60ft's usually around 2.0 best being 1.98. Car has 150k on it and suspension was super sloppy off the line. It never would spin but had alot of flex when I brake torque it and on launch. Added the umi short tq arm and viking coilovers and went back today. Couldn't believe car picked up so much!!! Was just hoping maybe to barely sneak into 12's. I think it could have went 12.70's on the 2nd run if my 60 ft was better

Picked up the car on the cheap just for fun. Car was stone stock 98 z28 besides a rotted out fake flowmaster muffler. I swear this car was never driven hard just not well taken care of. Everything was original! Plugs, wires, fuel filter, suspension etc all was gm original when I got it. Car is not pretty, from texas and interior and exterior was sun faded and cracked. Car went 13.50's stock with drag radials since the tires on it were terrible. Got faster ever time with small mods each time. Plans are to try and get into 11's with 4000 stall, bolt on's and stock exhaust

nice job!

you have a good plan to get into top 11's just keep picking away methodically like you have been , get it close then wait for hero da to get it done.

seen many cars get there on an agresssive stall and good hook (which is where your headed) that were missing items typically associated with cracking 11's stock internals , seen it done on stock manifolds , seen it done while still on 273's worst case you get super close then choose your next move from there but I think as long as you buy a decent 4k stall you will immediately be low 12's based on where your at now.

Another thought - most stalls offer 1 free re-stall and you hear more people say they wish they went higher than lower if they are chasing et goals start higher than 4k if you hate it use your free restall to lower it a bit - after you meet your goal

Thanks fellas I appreciate the insight. I got a yank ss4000 stall and a pro built trans "tune-up" for the 4l60e to help it live a little longer and tighten up the shifts. I'm gonna ditch the egr + air + abs etc.. Like to ditch 100-200lbs total off the front Gonna change the crank pulley and go with an ls6 intake. Anything else I should put on the list?

Skip the ls6 and go straight for a fast 90/102. Only about $200 difference when buying them used. 3.42 or 3.73 gears and a ewp would help out too.

There is a whole lot of weight on these cars to get rid of before the ac and abs needs to go unless you just want them gone.

Looking forward to progress on this, basically the same thing i'm doing with a 190k '99 Z A4.

Update as you can, love to hear your experience with the stall.

I definitely will keep you guys updated. I just ordered a k member, lower a arms, manual rack and front bumper support from Midwest Chassis on there black friday special. I'm gonna move the battery to the back also. Car is starting to cost a bit of money now but hopefully spending a little extra money on the suspension and weight reduction will get me in the 11's.

Good parts list going on, i'm sure it should net some good times.

I'm going to be trying my luck with 11's w/ bolt ons only but @ full weight. Should be a fun challenge.

Yeah, probably won't even be 'full bolt ons', just whatever I can afford. It's a budget build.

I'd spend more to get there easier if I could. lol

And thanks.

just keep chipping away till you get there ...plenty have done it with far from full bolt ons and full weight , lots of 11 sec bolt on cars without manual racks ,electric water pumps , and fast intakes - knowledge is power just pay attention to the combinations you see in the 11 sec section , the many combinations that can achieve it are right here in forum posts

Suspension mods really do pay off. My bolt-on T/A couldn't break out the 13's with the same MPH. Hopefully ditching the 2.73's for 3.42's will make a big difference.

So you think you can just slap on a FAST intake on a stock 98 engine just like that

Lol I love when people come in here like this....44 posts in 7 months and he knows everything. Dude bolt on stalled cars go 11's pretty regularly, usually with very minor weight reduction, sometimes none at all. Key is suspension and parts selection

btw ugghhh ya you can. I slapped on my fast 102 in about 2 hours. You need different valley cover bolts, minor water pump clearancing if you run an old wp and new fuel rails. Not exactly mind blowing mods to just "slap" an intake on.
