Default 12s in near stock SS

Just ran a 12.78 at 105mph and a 12.84 also at 105mph in my 2000 SS with catback and street tires. Now the problem is the quarter mile strip was marked off on a deserted road by me and 2 friends. All 3 of us stepped it off and took the longest distance (there's was about a 15 foot difference from shortest to longest) and then confirmed it with another car's tripmeter. We did this because the nearest strip is 90 minutes away. Now I'm curious how legit, if at all, you guys think my numbers are. It was a clutch frying 3600rpm slowdrop on the first launch and same type of launch at 4000rpm for the second run. I couldn't stand not knowing what my numbers were and would like to know how accurate you guys think those to runs were. Thanks for any input.

i think those #s are way off.

your saying tht if you go to a track and hook nicely (doubt you hooked on the street, or hook as well as on the track) you can hit a mid 12? basically stock?

i went from a 13.9 to a 13.5 just by getting tires and hooking better at the track..

by the way, you use a stopwatch? g tech? or??

Not to be an *** but I think its off because I ran a 12.72@109 at atco raceway and your time is almost as good as mine and you have 4 mph less on your trap speed...............

Yeah, we used a stopwatch. I was thinking the trap speed was a little low, but I was kinda atributing that to the launch. It's the type of launch that your clutch will be lucky to survive 10 times, putting 350ft.lbs. on a slipping clutch for a couple seconds is never good for it. We tried to get the track length as accurate as possible, measuring 4 times, but it's quite likely that the track could have been a few feet short. Anyway any input would be appreciated, based on those numbers any idea what I should run on the strip?

Not accurate. Doesn't mean it wouldn't run 12's though. The strip is totally different animal.

Yeah I'm beginning to think the track might be a little short. But you guys think street tires will launch better on the strip than a public road? I would've figured the opposite because the strip would be littered with rubber.

Rubber = hookage. Get behind a monster car on slicks. Launch in their tracks. You'll see what I mean.

(Of course, ricers love to leave rubber gravel with their huge burnouts on street tires. That sucks.)

Allright cool. Thanks for the tip, I would have instinctively avoided following the other car's tracks.

Avoid getting behind a fwd ricer at the strip. Those guys just love to track water on the track by doing burnouts in the water box.

Also go around the water box to do your burnout with street tires.

i'd say the trap is close, but your ET is way off. to run 12.7s @ 105 you'd need like a 1.7x 60'. which ain't gonna happen on street tires on a deserted road.

with a 105 trap you'd be lucky to run a 13.2 - but seeing that you're an m6, i'll guess 13.5 or so.

No way dude. It ain't gonna happen. Read my sig. that was with a 1.99 60 ft. Also that was when a cold front had just blown in. And no spinning.

Yeah I'll avoid the water box. Just clean em off a little a go. Might try to get out next tuesday if I can. Also my conditions are fairly good for drag racing very near sea level and about 70F in the evenings. I think I would expect 13.1 or 13.2 at around 106 when I finally to get to a strip. Anything under 13.5 and I will be happy. Again thanks for the input.
