12.95 100% stock A4 '02 Z28!!
I picked up the car two weeks ago from an older gentleman in Media PA, just south of Philly. Its a red 100% unmolested '02 Z28 automatic w/ 3.23s. Its on chrome 16 x 8 snowflakes, GSC 245-50-16s that are brand new. The car now has ~ 37,700 miles. When I say stock, I mean 100% stock. It still has the factory airbox, factory exhaust, nothing has been touched.
I decided to head out to Rockingham with a couple friends yesterday. The weather was good, I'm guessing no warmer than about 50 with a bit of a head wind. Depending on which website you look on, Rockingham's elevation is around ~ 340 feet above sea level. But with the cool January air and low humidity I'm sure the DA was close to zero and maybe even below it. In short, aside from a bit of a head wind, this was the best type of weather I'll see in North Carolina.
First pass off the street was terrible. I went in the left lane and spun badly and went high 16s. Ugh.
I was with my friend Joey from Tick Performance who knows the track announcer and he mentioned for me to try the right lane as it was being prepper better. Good idea.
Car went a 13.06 @ 105.8 MPH w/ 2.006 short time. I was pretty shocked. I was hoping my beat my old '98 Formula's best stock time of 13.4 @ 104 and the GTO's best stock time of 13.4 @ 103 MPH. I didn't expect 13.0 at almost 106 MPH. I made a few more runs and backed up that 13.0 with several more 13.0s and 13.1s. The rear tires were at 30 psi, the front were at 38 psi. The car is 100% full weight, jack and spare still in the car. I had been going from brake to gas progressively harded/faster each time, hoping the track would hold. Finally this happened:
60' 1.921
333' 5.442
1/8th 8.327
MPH 85.28
1000' 10.832
1/4 12.957
MPH 105.88
Of course I was really thrilled with this. I was able to go from brake to gas quickly and everything worked out. The GSCs somehow dead hooked and off I was with my 12 second slip in a stock automatic car. That was my best pass of the day. I was able to back that up with a 12.97 @ 105.8X MPH on a 1.94 60 ft time. Again, the car was full weight, jack & spare still in it. Its the heaviest Z28 you can buy as it has leather, TTops, and a CD changer so I'm guessing race weight is about 3540 or so. I started with a little less than a 1/4 tank and at the end of the day it was about an 1/8th. I'm not comfortable running the car with any less fuel than that. So that was my Saturday at Rockingham guys!!
