Question "check gages" light is on, what does it mean

Okay, i been getting this light on my cluster and im kinda clueless if its something else other than the obvious.

the light- "Check gages" keeps coming up. what does that mean??????

any help is appreciated.

-----in my understanding, i would translate this light as a reminder that im ignoring something that is comming up on the cluster, can someone correct me-----

If any gage within the cluster is in a "danger" zone, this light will pop on to catch your attention.

Most common reason was posted above (you're low on gas), but that's not the only reason. I've seen the light come on when voltage dropped too low as well. So check all the gages and see if anything is in a danger range.

Yeah, my check gauges light comes on whenever my gas tank is half full and the sending unit starts acting up. It can be half one second, empty the next moment. See if that is what is going on, especially if it happens at a stop light.

lol man you guys are right on the dot.

My camaro is a project car that i been working on for a year now, so it only sits in my garage and occasionally i will take it out for a drive around the block.

i been turning on the car occasionally and i know for a fact that the gas meter is currently marking under 1/4 of a tank left.

all other gages seems normal.

Def due to fuel.

I have gone to the gas station, mind you the needle is near empty but I fill only 12.5 gal and its a 15 gal tank. GM's tend to have this calibrated this way. Approx when my wife has about 50 miles worth of fuel left, she gets a Low Fuel thing on her HHR and will now show how many miles till empty.

Depends on the year. '98 has the old, smaller metal tank. '99+ gets the bigger plastic tank.

Probably a poorly calibrated gas pump.
