Default Alternator bracket template

Here is my design for the alternator only bracket I am using. This mounts the alternator high on the drivers side. Mine is 1/8" aluminum, but if I had it to do over, I would use 1/4". I can't seem to post them here, so email me for a copy. The drawing is in ACAD 2000 .dwg and .dxf formats.

Here is a picture of the bracket on my car. The drawings are a cleaned up version of the prototype.

One thing I forgot to mention. I am using the stock F-body alternator bracket just for the idler pulley. You could go without it, but the belt wrap on the crank pulley would be less.

Nice job....but does the alternator have any lateral movement with that bracket? It doesn't look rigid enough to stop any forward/rearward movement. Why didn't you use the C5 Corvette OEM bracket?

The bracket works great. I made the bracket non-adjustable due to the belt tensioner. I have had no flex problems in the last 2 years it has been on the car either. The bottom bolt of the alternator is attached to both the front and rear brackets and creates a surprisingly sturdy piece. Like I said above, I would use 1/4" if I made another one and I would use the same bracket for the front and rear.

I chose to make my own instead of use the C5 version for a few reasons. One was cost. It was much cheaper to make one than buy a new C5 bracket. And the other is I didn't want to change my crank pulley and belt tensioner to the C5 version. And you have to remember that when I did my conversion, there were not a lot of other people doing it and parts were not as readily available as they are today.

Here are some CATIA drawings of the plate and the complete assembly. I can send 3D data if anyone can read it and wants it. The dimensions of the holes are what's really important. The edges of the part can be whatever looks best, as long as it doesn't hit anything.

Can you please send me a 3D copy because I'm putting a LS1 into my 79 Firebird and I have to move the Alternator so it could fit under the hood.

richard.lazard@us.army.mil

Thank You
Richard
