GM igh Tech had a story by Caleb Nueman. We tested 10 cams in Gm Performance Parts LS3 (Corvette) crate engine.

Do a search abd I think that someone might have listed the cams. One of the rules was they had to clear in a stock LS3.

I ran PTV on the 4 that were the most radical or had large lift numbers.
The cams that with the least PTV were still at .100 on both valves.

I am running one in my LSA Crate engine that is 237/245 with a 115 LSA. The lift is .584 and .598.

I will try to remember what issue that story was published.

Interesting facts, several of the companies that submitted cams also sent in a second cam to be run.
Since the guidlines for the story were "street" profiles Caleb picked the milder of the 2 cams from these companies to test. There just wasn't enough time to run all the cams.

I wish we had the time as those would have been more aggressive compared to what we tested.
Futral and Comp as well as Lunati submitted 2 cams. The milder of the 2 Lunati cams was larger than all the other cams!

I would have liked to run the other Futral and Comp cams for a comparison. Hell I would have liked to run a lot more cams! LOL I was limited by the time that we had on the dyno as well as the schedule for the story.

Oh well, maybe next time.

No I don't. Terry Williams at Futral does some very nice cams. I would have liked to try it.

The Lunati in the test was a 233/245 with the same lift and duration as the cam I listed above. I had checked PTV on all the cams that were big and that 237/245 was the one I checked. I have that cam in my Camaro at this time.

The cam tested was later installed in the LS3 in my Camaro 233/245.(confusing since it now has theLSA engine with the bigger cam)

We covered that story in Hot Rod Magazine. That cam needs GEAR. It lacks in the low end as you would expect. In my 4000+ pound Camaro it ran a 12.20 on motor with Kooks exhaust and GMPP CNC Ported heads.

That combination in my Camaro made 464 at the wheels. It was fun but really hard to launch with the 3.45 gear and tall tire.

www.gmhightectperformance.com and search LS3 cams. Thats how I found it.
I am very happy with Alan Futral and Futral Motorsports. The cam in my car now does exactly what I asked for. I dont daily drive the car anymore and just want something bigger.

i'd run the texas giant cam, i talked to john janns at texas speed and they pushed they grind specs up high and nasty for me on a 111LSA. The car made good power with a poor tuner it's off a little bit still.... So i'm going single plane to make the camshaft matched with the heads.... This cam supposedly made 635 to the flywheel on a Ls3 vette heads and cam with bolts on. My car with the LME 408, Ls3 STG 2.5's, 1-7/8's, TD's, stock L76 and ported 92mm 527/475 with alot more left on the table...

From my experience..Lg's g6x3 is the biggest cam you can use without flycutting...ptv is extremely tight and you better make sure the person installing it knows what they're doing..Should realistically make mid 480's to the wheels with supporting bolt ons...
