Default GM tech 2 question

I got a chance to purchase a GM tech 2, and was wondering if they are worth having. It is programmed up to 99 year model. Can they be programmed to accomodate the later year models? Any other info that I may need to know?

what is the asking price, and if it can program up to 99, then it is REALLY old. Does it come with a 10mb or 32mb card? Does it come with a candi module? What version is it, vetronix?

What do you need one for, diagnostic, factory reflashes. You can get a subscription to use it for reflashing for about 1000-1400 at acdelcotds.

I'd like to have one, but most users don't "need" a tech2 when a cheaper scantool will do most of the things necessary. But if your looking to bleed ABS modules and such, it may be worth having (but you really need to update it so it can with with newer vehicles, which requires the above expensive subscription)

alrite now we are getting somewhere. i will get back with ya on most of that info, but i only paid $50 for this thing, i would definetly say i dont need to do factory reflashes, just normal scanning and looking at abs codes. i do know it has a 10MB card in it. im really not interested i spending a ton of cash on this thing in a subscription. i will post back up later today with some more info about it.

any idea how much these things are worth?

I'd need to see a picture to see what version it is, and what they're worth. $50 is a great deal, depending on what version it it, it may be worth 20 times that or more.

ryan212@aol.com is my e-mail if you want to send a picture.

50 bucks it's either hot or not a real techII. Or someone doesn't know what they have. FWIW, the tool is not much older than 1999. Before that they were TechI's.

If that is a REAL Tech 2 then you are sitting on a gold mine lol. You do realize those are like $3-4K brand new right? However, you will need to get it updated and I believe that will cost a pretty penny. I know there are fake Tech 2's going around but I can't tell the difference from a picture (never seen a fake one). Either way, that was a heck of a deal. Do they have anymore?

yea i realize i got a heck of a deal. its from an old junk peddler and he got it at an auction as a "lot" of scanners mostly just obd1 and obd2 generic scanners and this was in there and i ask what he would sell for and he said $100, after checking it out i told him it was kinda out of date so he said $50 and i took it. just trying to decide what i want to do with it and if i need to put anything else into it to get a good price if i sell it. im really thinking about just keeping it, i just want it to be able to use on newer vehicles.

GOOD DEAL, Find someone who works at a local dealer and ask them to update it. I'd do it but I'm in South FL. You may not even need to update it. If your only scanning for codes and looking at snap shots. Without a Candi module you won't be able to scan most 04+ GM vehicles. Not even an Malibu.
