LY6 engine Hey Guys, I'm new LS1 Tech. I just bought a LY6 complete with everything, injection, power steering pump, alt, air conditioning compressor starter and it only has 25 miles on it. It will be going in my 1969 camaro. Thinking of a cam from Comp cams. They have Cams that will work with the VVT. I would like any advice on mods for this engine that will wake it up. For now I want to keep the truck intake because I don't want to change the serpentine system to make a new one fit. $$$$ I will be putting a 6 speed behind it and would like to know if that will affect the VVT. thanks

The Vortec 6000 LY6 is a Generation IV small block V8 truck engine. It shares the same bore and stroke as its LQ4 predecessor, and also features variable valve timing.
LY6 applications:
* 2007-present Chevrolet Silverado HD
* 2007-present GMC Sierra HD
* 2007-present Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 ton
* 2007-present GMC Yukon XL 3/4 ton

Why did you delete the VVT. The intake valve closing is the most important valve action in the valve train. You can make great power low and in the higher RPM range as well. I talked to comp cams and they make phase limiters that will allow you to run a larger cam. For a street car torque is king, stop light to stop light.

I know they make performance cam for vvt and that's a make great performance all over the power range but in my 99 camaro, too much modification were needed. New PCM and the analog gauges don't work anymore with the pcm. Electronical modifications is not stuff, I'm a mecanical guy and the knowledge about these engine, here in Canada, is far from USA.
