Default Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum rocker arm review

i recently broke a comp cams red aluminum rocker so i decided to upgrade to the ultra pro mags. it made a world of difference.

just by looking at it, u can tell its a stout design. the red rockers had pressed in bearing where as the ultras have a snap ring holding each bearing in.

when installed, they are the quietest rocker iv ever used. i cant hear any valve train noise. i am extremly impressed with these rockers.

I would NEVER trust an aluminum rocker for a performance app. I have the old Pro-mags and have never had an issue.

Crane Gold Racing aluminum rockers here. They've been pressing on 250lbs of seat pressure and 500lbs with the valves open up to 7200rpm for the last 3 years. Is this a Bert law of ridiculousness that you've held on to.

Go into any performance machine shop and say this and they will laugh you out the door.

That might be true but I dont claim to be a professional or a know it all. I base the statement on I have seen several posts where bearings sliding out were the issue. But I have NEVER seen a problem with a Pro-mag. In all fairness they could have been cheap Chinese junk.

Just knowing what I know, I feel better with the Pro-mag knowing the chromeoly steel is stronger than aluminum..

Not really. See my last post.

I would never trust an aluminum rocker in a performance app. Bad wording and I want to take that back. I will now leave the woodshed.

it is my understanding that aluminum rockers are more race oriented rather that daily driver friendly. i could be wrong but thats what i get from it

This may be true, but with all these knock off no name brands making "performance aluminum rockers" you really get what you pay for. There is nothing wrong with aluminum but I wouldn't buy the cheapest set I could find.

iv had pro mags on my last motor. these new ultra magnums seem much better. it kinda looks like comp is phasing out pro mags and replacing them with ultras. if u check jegs, they dont have a big selection of pro mags anymore but the selection of ultras is huge

I have the Ultra Pro Mags. I love them and think they're an awesome rocker, BUT mine are not as quite as you say. They're not obnoxious by any means but you can hear them.

Does anyone know what part of a rockers design determines how loud it will be?

Same here, good rocker but they are noticeable at idle.

I have a new set of pro mags. Can't hear a thing out of them. Very quiet. I bought them for longevity on a street/strip engine. I was afraid aluminum would suffer from metal fatigue over time and break. True or not, I prefer the peace of mind.

A buddy of mine broke a Crane aluminum rocker just a week ago. The broken area showed horrible porosity.........the kind I would not expect to see even in a cheap Chinese casting! If you had that kind of porosity in a steel rocker, I'd expect it to fail eventually too. It just goes to show, there are quality escapes everywhere.......you just have to go where you feel your odds are best.
Running ProMags here.
