Default 799 vs 243

I've read a lot on here saying 799 heads are the same as LS2 243 heads...

Do they have the exact same specs?

Would they provide the same compression ratio?

If they are the same, why does it seem they aren't as popular?

Thanks

They are cast in a different location. That alone probably allows small variances, but nothing really worth mentioning I'm sure. They are only on newer vehicles so there aren't as many out there.

243 heads (LS6) came with 2.00 hollow stem intake valves (lighter) 799 (LS2) regular solid 2.00 intake valves

243 came with sodiom filled stem 1.55 exhaust valves (lighter and more heat dissepation) 799 came with regular solid stem 1.55

and this one I`m not sure of but 243 01-04 came with the blue LS6 springs (more lift capable) but 2001 243 and 2005 and later 799 came with yellow LS6 valve springs (less than the blue lift capability)

that`s why 243 heads are much more expensive because of the hollow intake and sodiom exhaust I think.

this is what I understood from reading so anybody correct me if I`m wrong.

and they are popular because most sites write for their ported 243 heads:
*LS6 Style* or 243 or 799 head casting but the title says ported LS6 of 243 heads

243 is just the casting number. They came with and without hollow stem valves. They are popular because they've been around since 2001 where as 799s have been around since mid 2007.

Yes, I already know about LS6 243 heads..hah

I was merely asking if there are ANY differences between LS2 243 heads and 799 heads. That is why I specified LS2 in my original post..

Also, would it still gain about the same 15rwhp as 243s?

Is $200 a good price for fully assembled heads?

$200 is an awesome price. They are the same as LS2 243s (which sell for $400+).

200$ a steal! get them if you`ll use them without cnc porting or just upgraded springs ..... PRC LS6 stage 1 is the same that is cnc`d with new ls6 springs so better in my opinion if you won`t use them ported

just a thought

I would have already been in the 10s if my bottle didn't go empty..haha

I don't know if I already posted about it or not, but I was having trouble hooking all night, then FINALLY cut an awesome 60ft... The car lost 3mph and still ran an 11.04.

This is correct. They are the same heads, provide the same gains and I'm sure they run the exact same CNC program on either head regardless of which one it is. No difference except they dont come on the Z06. That factor alone gives the 243s their "rep".

I have 799 heads and I have made decent power with my set up on my Camaro with them on a very mild cam (221/221 561. Lift cam 114+4LSA) 378whp and 369 torque. I just put in a slightly larger cam in last weekend and hope to hit over 400whp.

I payed $400 for my 799 heads that someone put LS6 Valve springs on already. I currently have .650 lift springs in there now.

799/243 heads, are the same but the 799 has a sand tool chamber, the 243s have a steel chamber tool . so imo the 243 might run a littel better .if they are not ported

thats a great deal. The have a little different surface finish from the way they are casted like ^^^ said. But for porting the casting are the same, but there is still some a little better then others. Mostly how the cast runner fit the seat, some are "under cast" if that makes sense, putting .02 .05 valve can fit that better if you have a few casting your working with. But haven't done enough to notice a difference for sure between a 799/243
