I have a 2002 camaro and my timing chain busted and I am about 99.9% sure I bent a valve. Any advixe on how to know for sure, how to check or how to take it all apart to get fixed?

A leak down test will tell you for sure. If your valves are bent pretty badly you'll hear the air passing through. Anything over a 20% leak down on each cylinder and you've got problems.

If you snapped the chain at a high rpm, it's almost a definite that the valves are smashed. If it happened at a low rpm, you might get lucky. I've seen chains snap at idle and not cause any harm to the top end, but anything over 3K usually means the heads are coming off.

Well it snaped when i started it so yeah it was at a low rpm

How do you know you broke a chain? Pull the valve covers and rocker arms off and lay a straight edge across the tops of the retainers. They will all be the same height if none are bent.

I know i broke it because I took the front cover off and the chain was broken

When i try to start it it wont turn over or anything it just knocks. Like i clearence issue. Something is just hitting against something else

With the cam not turning some of your valves are sitting open all the time. What do you think is happening when the pistons comes to the top of those cylinders with open valves?

What kind of chain broke? Stock or aftermarket?

Stock chain. I dont know much about the internals. The guy that was helping me fix the chain said it was a clearence issue from a bent valve when i tried to start it again after putting the new chain. I was hoping with it busting when i started it it wouldn't have done any other damage since i wasn't driving. Im really hoping it didnt do anything to the pistons

Busted my dual Roll-master while road racing, bent 6 valves & some nice hits on the Mahle pistons. You definitely need to remove the heads & check for damage, amazed that you didn't after finding the chain broken, even if it was only on start up.

Thats alot of work with not enough time money or resources. We were really hoping with it busted just at start up damage wouldnt be anything more then the chain

The best way to check is to pull the heads off. You could also perform a vacuum or leak down test.
