Silverado Classic MPG??????

Silverado Classic MPG?????? What kind of mileage are you getting on your crew cab silverados' 07 and older. Also what mods do you have if you're getting something decent?
My dad is complaining about his 07, i drove it like an old lady, normal and finally wot everywhere when my car broke down and i never got above 14mpg regardless of driving habits. The 02 extended cab i had during high school always got 17 to 18 in the city and my foot was always on the gas.
Thanks for some of the feed back i received, forgot to mention, it's a 5.3 2wd and only has 40k miles tops, i think he said even on the highway he sees this numbers. We had thought about the k&n but then i seen ppl complain about it not filtering right. He doesn't mind spending some cash if mileage improves so i'm just doing his hw and figuring out what are the best mods. Is there a good silverado forum or something like that with more support, some one knows?

I have an 07 classic CC with a 4.8. 17 is the best I have seen in the city. I don't drive enough on the highway to get a true highway number. I have a magnaflow cat back and 20's.

My 03 2WD RCSB w/160K miles, 20" wheels, K&N, Flowmaster catback and slipping tranny
gets about 14.5mpg. Trending Topics

First thing to do is look at what maintenance you have done. If you are lacking on some maintenance then do it and see if it helps, if it does not then no loss since you should have already done it.
I cant remember if that body style still had the fuel filter but i believe they did. Cheap simple and can make some crazy stuff happen when dirty, along with a dirty air filter. Check the tire pressure. All a bunch of simple b.s. that you might not think about and might not associate with fuel economy. Start simple you would be surprised were you could pick the extra mpg.

I've had several of these trucks, and something sounds wrong.
My 04 gmc 1500 crew cab, 5.3 with every bolt on and a mild cam and 2600 RPM torgue converter and 3.90 gears averaged 17-18 with mostly highway miles.
My wife 06 Ext. Cab Z71, 5.3 basically stock with 3.42's would average about that same amount. Though I was able to get over 20 MPG on a trip from Houston to Dallas. The average dropped considerably though on the trip back due to a headwind.
There could be alot of variables with the trucks. What kind and size of tires is he running, gear ratio? Someone hit up the maintenance issue previously, that could be, but with only 40K not likely. What kind of driving does he do? If only city-stop and go driving, mileage is going to suck. If a mixed city/highway, those numbers seem at leas 2 mpg low IMO.

A friends identical 06 sierra with a bit more miles is getting only 13. Another's friends 04 with 140k k&n n something else is getting 17-18 city.
And well my stock 02 ext. cab was great on gas.
