275/40-17 Drag Radial, NT05R or Toyo Proxes TQ? How many miles are you guys getting out of your NT05R's with out excessive abuse? I currently have a test set of MT ET Street radials on my car to see if they would hook, I love them but I drive my car alot and it rains alot around here. I want something to hook like the MT, drive decent in rain and get 7-10k miles out of them. Car is a 6 speed with 3.5 gears, 76mm turbo around 600rwhp on 7lbs. My normal street tires spin anything below 3rd gear and these Mickey's hook from a 1st gear roll.
I have slicks for the track, I just want a better tire for daily use. I don't drive in the winter because we get a ton of snow here and I have better cars for that.

Only have experience with the toyos and wasnt impressed. Short life, no better than nitto 555r at hooking, and rubber seemed to get hard with life still left in tread. And they were on a 450hp car, driving daily.

now i run Toyo proxes TQ its really amazing hook from 1st gear

I'm willing to have less traction than the MT provides if it means more tire life. I can't run the MT, it rains a lot here and I drive all the time. I don't feel safe with them in the rain. Seems like no one can answer if the NTO5r last more or less than the MT???
I looked into the M&H as I can get a really good price for those, but I don't see a 275/40-17 from them and I don't want to run a 28" rear since I have 3.5 gears.

If you want a DR that will get good life 10k+ (maybe) and be ok in the rain then get the 555R D/R. That is the only reason I got them after having a close call with MT radials on the highway, and getting caught in a freak thunderstorm. I will not drive my car in the rain period if I know I can avoid it. DR's really just don't make good DD tires. But if you have to have them then the 555r is the most street friendly and still has decent hooking abilities. I know everyone says the 555r's are shitty but a buddy of mine pulls 1.6's on a 275/50/15 all the time with SFC's and LCA's only.
In this order of street friendliness(from experience) 555R, NTO5R, MT ET Streets, Hoosier QTP's and M&H will be probably about the same as the ET streets. If the tires have some diagonal siping or tread voids then it will be more street friendly as this helps evacuate the water, but if it is just a straight line like the MT ET streets, Hoosiers, NTO5's etc. it will be less able to evacuate the water from the tread thus causing hydroplaning situations.

well thous nittos are gona be like a bald MT if you care about rain.
Just looking at them, I would think they would be just the same as a DOT slick. You have to get somthing with some lateral grooves to channel the water. that why I say I like the M&H over MT, My MT they still have about 1/8 tread but lost the tread in the middle so just have the very outside ones.
And they suck in full rain, and standing water. Coming back form the shootout last fall I had to wait to get thu buffalo NY on the hwy till the rain stoped. they still have 1/2 tread and work good at the track but any standing water they hydo plan over 35mph. The M&H have full depth middle tread so are still fine in the rain, I was going 55-65 in normal rain fine.

If only M&H made a 26" tall 17" radial, I would have them. I run M&H slicks and love their stuff. I see some people say the NT05R are good in the rain but like you said it doesn't look like it would do well at all in standing water. Standing water is what I'm worried about not the light stuff. I've read a few people said the toyo drives like a regular tire in the rain, but I've also read a few high hp guys say the toyo hooks like a regular tire. Damn this sucks, no easy choice 
I often take my car to my parents on the weekends 1.5 hours away. It can be nice one day and flooding the next day, can't really wait to get back to work so I need to drive in the rain. Washington state gets more rain than the rain forest

Like has been said the NT05's are going to be identical to the ET street II's, if not worse. The ET street I's actually have some diagonal siping to help evacuate water better, as do the 555R's more so. If your making close to or over 500 to the tire any DR like a 555R, Toyo, NTO5, BFG, etc. is going to hook like a street tire. Until you air them down you won't really see a difference. I can say that with my ET street II's I have on my ZR1 wheels that they hook really well at full throttle from a roll on and don't get squirrley until the top of 2nd gear around 6200-6500rpm if at all. The 555R's will get some wheel spin when my powerband kicks in around 4200 rpm where the 76 likes to spool. I haven't had any experience from a dead stop yet with either tire.
Bite the bullet, buy the ET street II's and don't drive over 35 in the heavy rain. A friend and highly accomplished race buddy of mine with a 1000whp WS6 will not and I repeat will not drive over 35mph in the rain on his ET street II's. Plain and simple. He runs in True Street and KOTS so he actually drives his car and doesn't trailer it. Runs 8.61 at 161mph and then drives it back home 500+miles, but if he runs into rain it's 35mph.

get the MT and sell them when they get 1/2 worn then. there only good in the rain with the middle tread still, that wears out soon.

Damnit the ET Street 2 doesn't come in a 275/40-17, just a 295/45-17 (28") or a 315/35-17 too wide for my wheels. Maybe I will just nut up and run the 28" M&H. Studderin how many miles did you get out of yours? 28" @ 6300 rpm = 150 mph

That new tread M/T tires is ok, ive done about 5 passes on them, a few burnouts, and maybe 3-4k miles on them and they are 100% better in the rain vs the regular style m/t.
Im running a 295/45/17 tire... ts nice..
Now, my fav DD Dr is the NT555R for sure, lasted about 10k with some abuse and did great in rain.. And hooked on the street.. atleast for me.
