Default TSP Torquer v2 vs. v3

I've been researching ls1 cam choices for quite some time now, probably over six months and have narrowed my choices to the torque v2 or v3. From what I've seen the v3 makes a little more peak power over the v2 but most importantly makes stronger power sooner in the rpm range. With that in mind the v3 seems like a sure choice, but the high lift scares me off a bit.

After reading through threads about beehive springs vs dual springs there seems to be weight benefits by going with the lghter beehive spring. With the torque v3 I'm basically forced to use a dual spring because of the high lift. In addition to this the high lift is known to tear up valvetrain components a little quicker. My question is, would the trade off in power by going with the v3 be enough to offset the use of dual springs and the extra stress on the valvetrain? I have found conflicting information on this topic... some say the springs need to be checked every 10k miles other threads stated the dual springs should be good for 20k plus miles even with that high of a lift. Any suggestions?

Car is a 00 z28 m6. 3.42 gears, Lts, ls6 intake, pp throttle body, Chris 1313, ory, slp LM2. Daily driver. Thanks everyone!

I would go with the TSP Torquer 2 on a 112. Its a good size cam. Whether you go with the Torquer 2 or 3. You should go with dual springs for sure.

Both great cams. V3 seems superior. Don't be afraid of the lift. You'll be swapping springs on both every 20k if youre into maintaining it properly. I'd go with duals anyway just for the condom factor.

I've been debating this also. V2 or V3. I was leaning towards the V2.

I would like to hear if anyone has swapped between these two cams and what was the main difference.

I'd also like to hear someone from TSP to chime in on this.

I have the V3...TSP said to check them after 10k miles and replace them every 4 years or 25k - 30k miles whichever comes first.

I personally prefer the v.3. Even though it does have more lift and goes through springs a little quicker the performance is better. The power will come in earlier in the RPMS and it usually make a little more up top then the v.2. Like stated earlier you will have to change springs every 25-30k miles but the power makes it worth it in my opinion.

Okay, so it looks like its wise to go with dual springs whether I go with the v2 or v3. With that out of the way are there any other downsides to going with the v3 over the v2? Driveability, tuneability, etc. Thank you for the responses everyone, especially Texas speed. Your presence on this forum is what made me choose TSP over the other sponsors.

You will want to make sure you have a good tuner if you go with the v.3. We prefer to sell it on the 111 LSA so it can be a little tougher to tune. It is still very drivable once tuned because of the broad powerband. It will also have a pretty aggressive idle.

I've looked at the Lunati golds, haven't found a whole lot on them but the reviews I have found have been good. The price is also very competitive. 01ssred: are you currently running these springs? Thanks everyone for the responses!

John, you said the power comes in earlier with the V3?

I thought I read on here the V2 made better power down low? If that's not the case and the V3 is better for both low end and top end power, I would definitely pick the V3.

I wouldn't mind changing out the valve springs every 10k miles either, as the car only sees about 2k miles a year.

I can vouch for the fact that tuning can be an issue. I've had a dyno tune and have to bring it back....still fights on a cold start, and surges quite a bit @ 1500rpm. I'm sure they'll get it right but I have a feeling it may take a couple more trips back to my tuner.

Mine didn't want to stay running either....stalled 2x driveing to get a tune

BrntWS6, do you have the V3 or V2? I would really like to get one of these cams but not if tuning issues will cause all kinds of headaches.

Do you know if they did a street tune also or was it just a dyno tune?

I'm also wondering if some tuners are more experienced to help eliminate these drivability issues, or if they all run into problems tuning with these cams.

Yes the V3 makes more low end power then the v2. Its kind of what we were going for with the newer version. Just trying to spread out the power as much as possible.

I have the V3, but it's only a weekend warrior on nice days so minor driveability issues won't bother me too much. For a DD I don't know if i'd be for me.

It was a dyno tune.

My tuner is familer with the cam and said he can fix the cold starting issue. I didn't leave my car there over night so he gave it his best guess on a warm motor. He said he can probably get rid of most of the surging but maybe not all. It's going back in next week and we'll see how it drives after that.
