Default 94 Stock LT1: Nitrous & Cam Questions

I have a 94 z28. It is completely stock. My only mods are exhaust and intake.

I am looking to install a cam and valve springs and also nitrous.

I am new to nitrous and lt1 builds, and would greatly appreciate some positive feedback and knowledge!

Best Cam(for use with 100 shot):

Best valve springs:

Best Nitrous Setup(wet or Dry):

Any other supporting mods i would need to make for the above to work at its safest-best potential:

I appreciate your time and help. thanks

You don't need to consider nitrous use when picking a cam till you are looking at say 250+hp worth which you wont be on an otherwise stock motor even with a cam swap.

Do stall/gears first. When you say "exhaust" does that include headers?

You really should list a lot more info about your car and goals if you want meaningful help.

By the time you are spraying that big you should have professional help with the engine in the form of a machine shop and a head porter that would be better to ask.

In very broad terms though and again this is for much larger shots of nitrous than being discussed here a "nitrous cam" will have a wider LSA and more intake/exhaust duration split.

On a small shot though those compromises hurt NA power more than they help nitrous power so it is best to leave those optimizations for larger nitrous hits.

Per the discussion so far in this thread, the stock cam is an excellent nitrous cam.

In your situation I would have Longtubes or atleast MAC mids free flowing exhaust. New valve springs, NSA1.7 rockers on 7/16 studs w/ flat plates and hardened pushrods,255lph fuel pump,Cold air or an Ls1 lid set up,3600stall,3.42 gears, tune,MSD digital6 and a NX 150 shot......ET streets and go have fun!

When I had only exhaust no cats, cold AIR,150 shot, dragradials and No tune...... I went from 13.9na to 12.2 on a 150 shot back in '03 and now my best with Longtubes,tune,1.6rr and 4.10s added to the above I run 12.9na and 11.3 on the same 150 shot. My Lt1 has seen tooooooo many bottles of N2O Nitrous and Lt1s work very nice together.

Thanks for the info. As per requested to list more about my car and goals:

Stock 94z. 120k miles. Manual trans.

Only mods are K&N Cold Air Intake, 3'' exhaust, flowmaster, No Cat, Stock Header

My goal is to have a fun street car, as fast as possible on a budget of around 3000.

Once the car needs a rebuild i would then like an ls swap of some kind.

I was thinking about a cam, valvesprings, 100 shot, long tubes, and a tune.

Please give me feedback! thanks!

If bothering to put a kit on I would go ahead and be prepared to run 150hp through it, go ahead and start smaller work your way up learning and tuning, but with decent tune a 150shot is easy and reliable on an LT1, a lot of guys have gone 175 and some go higher, one wingnut with a stock shortblock Impala successfully did 2 stages for a total of 280hp. Most endup scattering the motor when they aim high like that and I have seen a few cases where with stock(unported) heads guys didn't gain anymore past 175 because the system just got so choked.

I would put gears in it, will make it nicer to drive all the time.

If you want something that works well with stock springs then you need to find a cam SMALLER than stock. The stock cam actually benefits from more spring.

The lifters are good enough for pretty much any reasonable hydraulic cam.
The retainers have to match whatever spring you choose.
