I am doing a motor swap from a 2002 Firebird W68 (3.8L V6 engine is giving up and I've had this planned for awhile) - to either a 4.8L V8 for a budget swap or 5.3L...

If I go with the 270 - 295 HP 4.8L, will I be able to keep my stock V6 fuel pump? I am trying to do this as cheap as possible but it has to be done.

If so...

What about the 5.3L?

I know with the LS1 you have to change it...If I DO then I will change it no big deal but if I can save money, I'm going to.

If the operating pressure of the V6 pump is the same as the V8, there is no need to change the pump. The operating pressure of the V8 is 58psi.

How do I find the pressure? I heard they flow close to the same but the volume was different.

I did some searching for you cuz I was curious myself but didnt find much really...
I did however find some aftermarket pumps that told me the operating pressure said 61psi I believe. I was set with that but then came across this and wonder if its the "correct" pressure or not? 48-55psi?

Do you have a thread on your build? I was thinking of buying a v6 and doing the swap with all the parts i strip off my T/A. And want to see it first hand. Thanks

according to alldata KOEO 48-54 for v6 and 55-60 for v8 pump output. It would not surprise me one bit if the pump is the exact same and the pressure regulator setting is where the few pounds difference if any actually comes into play. I've done a couple of ls conversions using stock v6 pumps with no problems. Depends on how wild you are going with new motor.

also as i just found doing my LS swap into a V6 car. The V6 fuel pump has no return line and pressure regulator on pump like the V8 but the setup is similar to a corvett. You can put the V8 fuel pump in the V6 tank ans swap the lines, either way there is some info on how to do it. I would upgrade the fuel pump though. under $200 for a racetronics 255 that you know will work.
