I currently have a 1997 Ford Taurus. The stereo head unit is a sony x-plod that has a 50wx4 in front. So I'm assuming its 200w. The problem is when I turn it up past 20/35 it shuts off and turns back on. Unless i turn it down quickly it shuts off again. I bought the car with these head unit and it had the stock 4 speakers and stock two tweeters.
Somehow I blew out two speakers and put two Delco 6x9 speakers in the back I got in the swap meet for 5 dollars for now.

Is this caused by the speakers not handling the power?
I took the stereo out and it was installed using a wiring harness made for the car so I doubt its bad connections or a bad ground.

prob have a cut in a wire, shitty electrical tape causing a short, or you have resistance in a power wire

The problem is lack of adequate power, most often speakers are blown because the speakers are being sent a overloaded/clipped amplified signal. This will damage /shut off the amp and speakers. So you either need more efficient speakers(better) and/or a higher output amplifier(best) so that way nothing is being overloaded. Your no cost option is to just turn it down to a lower volume level.

Clipping actually usually doesn't damage amps... the amp is either wired wrong, has a bad ground, is driving speakers with lower-than-supported impedance, or is faulty.

P.S. It doesn't really have 200w total or even close. About 15WRMS per channel is about the most you will get from it...

So if all the wiring is basically stock with except the wiring harness used to install the stereo and the one that I used to install the 6x9 speakers in the back, Would getting better speakers fix the issue.

What speakers would handle the power the stereo puts out? 30W? 40W? 50W????

Check the resistance on the delco speakers. I'm betting they are 2ohm and overheating the hu.

4 ohm is pretty standard for aftermarket, non subs

disconnect the rear speakers and see if the problem goes away

I'll try that tomorrow, but it was doing it with the stock speakers before I blew out the two and replaced them with the delcos

Id say BCM. I had a brand new alpine in-dash that I returned for another brand new one and had the same problem. Took me a month to figure it out! I was so pissed off about it. Turn your head unit up and when it shuts off hurry and push your window button. If at the same time when the head unit is cut out and your window won't roll up/down then it is your BCM.

You guys do realize that this is not in an f-body and that Ford doesn't have the same BCM solder problem?

Anyone have experience with these, I'm thinking about just replacing all the speakers with these. I'm just wondering what impedance they got.

Avoid the three-way stuff and try to find a decent 2-way, IMO.

Disconnected the rear speakers and now I can turn up the volume to about 27-30 depending on the song, but the stereo still shuts off when it gets "too" loud.

What cheap speaker replacement recommendation. My budget is about 30 dollars for the pair.

And whats a better choice 2-way or 3-way?

Thought I'd give the update:
about 3 months ago, before the summer, I took out the stereo head unit and noticed 2-wires were cut. A black one and a blue one. I looked them up online and found out that the black one is the ground wire and the blue one was for the power antenna. Now when I bought the car the previous owner told me he got the head unit installed at a local shop. They installed it like this on purpose!!!

I stripped and reconnected both wires and now I can blast the stereo as high as I want without any problems (only sound distortion). Damn stereo shop. . .

op, first off do not buy pyle, they sell crap, you can get decent speakers for just a couple bucks more (jvc DRVN series) and the head unit u have is 50x4 PEAK power, only 20x4 RMS power, when you turn it up too far the factory speakers are 2ohm, and the internal amp surges to compensate, and heats up, shuts down to protect itself. replace speakers with decent 4ohm speakers and the head unit will work fine, i have xplod deck for 10 years now, did the same with factory speakers, but has never stopped now that i have aftermarket speakers, even though they are walmart cheapies.

While we appreciate that you are new and trying to offer help, you really need to read the whole thread and understand the situation - he's talking about a Ford Taurus which does not have 2-ohm factory speakers.
