Default 91 camaro twin turbo 5.3

hey guys new to the forum so thought i'd share my build. i'm usually on the third gen boards but i'm finding the more places i'm at with this build the more help and info i get. and its always a great time to talk to fellow car nuts. so hello and thank you for looking at my thread. i hope its intertaining

in short i'm doing a 5.3 swap into my 91 camaro.

i'm using a 99ss posi rear which currently has richmond 4:11 gears in it right now but i might change those to some 3:08's

700r4 or 4l80e trans. i have both transmissions but i'm not sure which one to use yet. i WANT overdrive but i've heard the 700 wont hold up and the 80e is to big.. so i'm up in the air on that one.

2002 5.3 with twin trubo, ls6 intake, stock but fresh bottom end, port matched-polished-bowl blened stock heads opened up to 2.02's, better valves and springs, water/alcy injection, etc. the build has just started so i dont have everything yet and nothings set in stone as i'm kinda new to wrenching but at 34 i'm wishing i would have started this earlier in life cuz i'm loving it lol so any input is GREATLY apprecieated.

sub frame connectors, lower contral arm brackets and trailing arms and new suspension as well.

ok now the pics to bring you up to speed.

Hey man car looks great! I also have a Turbo 3rd gen and am currently running an a1000 fuel pump, I'm thinking of switching to intake pumps and i really like how yours looks. Is that the stock fuel line assembly? What pumps r you running. Some more pics would be awesome thanks! Oh here's my build thread if your interested.

Nice, man! I'm buildin a third gen now, and this gives me inspiration. Let's hope this counts as my first post. I really need to get to those classifieds.

Sweet build!

well the intanks were not as hard as i thought they would be. those are 2 255lph pumps. should support up to 1300hp ish from what i read.. i'm a newbie so sorry if thats wrong lol anyway that is the stock sending unit all i basically did was clamp to pumps together. used the factory fuel feed and the vent hole for the second pump with gates submersable fuel line and i plan to join them with a -y- block at the point where they met the fuel line that runs to the motor.

dont drop one of your pumps or you will have to buy another one..3 pumps into it i have two that work

I had a cheap 255lph pump from ebay that did the same thing. I stepped up to dual walbros, they have metal nipples as apposed to the plastic ones.

OK wow that looks great man! Where'd you buy the pumps? Ill be placing an order soon how much were they? This is definitely the route I'm taking. Is that a brand new tank? How much was it?

Good luck with your build.

Use the 4L80E, its not "too big". One and done.

thanks, and on that trans... i'm know nothing about them and a guy on the 3rd gen boards has me scared about the torque converter... said i'm going to spend at least a grand for one that will work for my build.... anyone know if this is true. i'm really hoping for the 800whp range for this car.

ok let it be known that i am aware these are the cheaper walboro version and i am ok with that. to me dropping that tank was peice of cake and if both of these fail i will not be bothered to change them out at $40 a peice so to answer your question i got them from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HIGH-PER...item231472d913
hey i have one with a broken nosel if your interested $20 and its yours lolol

oops sorry forgot to answer the "new tank" q. no that is the old one. wire wheel, sand paper and about an hour of time and it was clean, smooth and ready for paint. came out pretty well i think.

Yes the torque converter will cost you. Its worth it imo. I just paid $920 for another Yank PY3600. Its going to cost you either way. Pay now or pay for that 700R4 getting rebuilt all the time and driving around with a light foot because you "dont want to break the trans again" That sucks. 800rwhp you must step up to the big boy transmissions. You could run really high gears in the 2.75-3.00 range and use a Turbo 400 but I like the lockup on the highway. My 650rwhp 6.0 with a 4L80E and 3.42 gears got just under 20mpg on E85 on the highway.

nova, awesome info thank you so much for that. i do want the lock up. i drive down state to detroit at least once a month and in the summer id love to be able to take this car and the th400 would be strong and all but even witht the lower gears on I-75 in the summer there quite a few stretches where everybody is doing 80-85mph on nice days and i still think i'd be a little higher(rpm's) then i want to be for a long drive. thanks again

Yep thats the beauty of the 4L80E. Strong trans with overdrive. Ecspecially with the turbos and the power you will have. Nothing like having a ton of power and jumping in and driving 100 miles somewhere on the freeway at 80mph and 2400rpm passing all the N/A three speed 4.11 geared cars stuck going 60mph.

Hey guys anybody have an opinion on trans cooler sizes? I want to cut out the battery tray spot on both sides and put a trans cooler on one side and an oil cooler on the other. It would give me about a ten x ten inch opening. Big enough?
