Hey guys I am in the market for a used engine and tranny for my next project. I have called around to different places and most of the prices I have gotten have been between 4 and 5k for motor and tranny. To me that seemed a little on the pricey side for a used engine but maybe I'm wrong. So I am wondering what some of you guys have payed?

All depends on the year, mileage, what all is included, etc etc. I just sold a complete LS1 with all the accessories, harness, and computer with 32k miles for $2600. 6spds usually go for $1500ish depending on what's all included, mileage, etc. I've seen them go for less, and I've seen them go for much more. The same goes for LS1s.

If your on a budget but really want a 6spd you can save a couple hundred and pick up a 5.3 instead. It'll have just a tad less hp than an LS1, but you'll find much better prices on them.

I think they're actually going up in price, and its only a short matter of time before people are driving in perfectly roadworthy F-bodies and parting them out. I bought my 2002 LS1/T56 takeout for $3500, and in the 6 months since the fellow I bought it from has raised his prices $500.

The F-body LS1 might as well be made of gold, EVERYONE wants the oil pan, accesories, etc for countless conversions and engine swaps. I'd say finding a 2001/2002 LS1 for $4000 or less is a fair deal.

Ive seen them on here and craigslist for under 2 grand. If you keep your eye out you can find deals. And for the most part people want LS2, LS3, etc. Those are the ones selling at the premium. This is all private party though, I would expect to pay a lot more if your buying it from a shop or junk yard
