Default Whipple 416....

I had the pleasure of dyno tuning a pretty nasty setup today. It's an Orange SS, 416, 2.9 whipple, th400.

The plan was setup 2 tunes, 1 for each pulley. 3.75 and the 2.75.

Long story short, we didn't have a short enough belt for proper tension on the 2.75 and it shredded...lol. That pulley would be good for about 16 psi. So we only got to setup the 3.75 which is only 8psi.

It put down 661 on 8 lbs at 6750.

Car had gone 9.84 at 138 before the can swap on 8psi. Hopefulley the belt will be here Friday to setup the tune for the big boy pulley. I'll post a quick idle vid shortley.

Very nice. I really, really would love to go to a forged bottom end. Very interested to here about the 2.75 and whether or not that 6 rib is going to work out.

Also, I'm curious about the boost and pulley size you're running. On the Whipple site the 3.75 pulley should produce 11 pounds at 6500 rpm and the 2.75 is 19. I am running the 3.875 on a stock bottom end and am making pretty close to what whipple says I should be (10 pounds).

Interested in getting my mind around why there is a difference. I assume that the extra cubes and cam, as well as, head work and opened exhaust would account for this. Correct?

Aha! That makes sense. I've seen 6 rib setups slip on 3.75 setups so I was curious. Did you get the new belt for the smaller pulley?

Well the 3.25 is the limit for us, any smaller and we are overrunning the blower. At 11.5 psi it made 721 through a th400 and a monster converter.

Yes ported heads and it was only 8 rib. The nw102 he has is shutting the blade over 6500 rpm so thats a lil roadblock. He is upgrading to the upcoming 4.0 Whipple so I don't know how much more we'll play with this setup.
