Default 1986 complete truck 454 into 1970 chevelle

Hey everyone, I have a complete 454 from oil pan to carb to a turbo 400 out of a 1986 suburban. My plan is to install the motor and trans temporally till I have enough to go the route i have dreamed about. My question is will the complete 454 with accessories and brackets out of the truck work in my chevelle? Will the oil pan also work?

Not sure about the oil pan, but everything else should work. The Chevelle has a ton of room under the hood.

Score a car oil pan and pick-up tube/oil pump. She will drop right in with the Chevelle motor mounts. Little close on the power brake booster and AC box if you use tall valve covers. You will need to have the drive shaft cut, I would cut the one out of the Suburban if it is a one piece (no carrier bearing). Chevelle transmission cross member and frame are drilled for the TH400.

my suggestion is build up the compression before you drop the motor in. these motors only made about 230 hp and the crank and have about 8:1 compression

Easiest way for a compression bump is to swap heads, horsepower will come from a cam, the truck 454 is designed to be torque happy at or below 4500 RPM. Vortec 7400 heads came out in the 90's to pump up the low compression 454 motors for the 454 SS trucks. They are a throw back to 65-66 396 98cc closed chambered heads witth full size oval ports. Another route is to have your heads angle milled to drop the chambers to 100-110cc. Don't worry, new 450 HP 454 crate motors only have 8.75-1 compression.

I would use big oval ports with big valves over the heads in this article, personally....
