1st pass with 5.3 = 2 broken, 1 torched piston ???
Secondly, id be intersted to see how your fuel checks out.
Those autolites, what heat range do they compare to vs an NGK?
Im not convinced the IATS were the real problem here.
As far as "feeding the blow torch", I personally dont think so. I believe 11.5 is to lean for E85, just becuase you dont get knock doesnt mean you are making peak power...
Also, im no expert, but it looks like i see signs of Detonation AND pre ignition... Which i believe is why that one piston literally looks torched...
Witch is one of the reasons I said double check the fuel system before running it again. It doesn't cost anything to flow the system and clean everything.

I had to add 10% fuel to get it to crank the next day, just to get it off the trailer. I am thinking my Megasquirt picked a bad time to start crapping out.
I am going to re-do all my efi wiring and double check my fuel system before the next engine goes in. I also found 5 bent rods on the other pistons that were fine.

break some stuff so cheap turbos and a cheap engine were on the menu.
I have no complaints whatsoever with these turbos.
My cam had the biggest effect on turbo lag until i put a looser converter in it.
Now it is pretty seemless. I went with a 4500 stall nitrous converter that I already had. If your cam isn't too radical, lag shouldn't be much of a problem.
to the OP, how much boost had you been running prior, and what was the tune like at that point in time?
I have alittle experience with e85 and 5.3's. Ive put almost 30 psi to a stock motor that did go down the track quickly without blowing up.
Yeah, I wish I had logged it, now its just speculation.
I am in the progress trying to blow up my 5.3 back up motor, non intercooled, E85, 30+ deg at 19-20lbs. 60+ full hard passes later on the street and its still running fine with no blow by.
