10.2 On E85, interesting, how does it run usually? Do you typically target that? I only ask because on 10.3ish, i fouled NGK BR7EF plugs very quickly.

Secondly, id be intersted to see how your fuel checks out.

Those autolites, what heat range do they compare to vs an NGK?

Im not convinced the IATS were the real problem here.

As far as "feeding the blow torch", I personally dont think so. I believe 11.5 is to lean for E85, just becuase you dont get knock doesnt mean you are making peak power...

Are those 103s projected Tip plugs? Also, not sure, but it looks like their are equiv. to a NGK TR6...

Also, im no expert, but it looks like i see signs of Detonation AND pre ignition... Which i believe is why that one piston literally looks torched...

Witch is one of the reasons I said double check the fuel system before running it again. It doesn't cost anything to flow the system and clean everything.

Poor lil pistons lost their oil, overheated the rings, and the rings not only try to grip the cylinder wall but they also expand in the land and crack themselves and try to split in lands, one from another.

Your IAT sensor is probably after the meth nozzles, he is throwing in e85 after the IAT sensor.

I to burnt #7piston in my 5.3, Im ordering a used on from ebay as we speak! Cylinder has a small nick, but this is my practice engine, so Im learning to tune on this one! I think the 11.7 afr was to lean, and intake temps of 154 took it out! Good luck!

I chose a 10.2 afr to stay on the safe side with that much boost and no cooling of iat. The Autolite 103 is equivalent to a NGK TR6

I believe it probably went lean also. It was running really hard thru first gear, and started popping severely after hitting second gear then pretty much layed over in high gear.
I had to add 10% fuel to get it to crank the next day, just to get it off the trailer. I am thinking my Megasquirt picked a bad time to start crapping out.
I am going to re-do all my efi wiring and double check my fuel system before the next engine goes in. I also found 5 bent rods on the other pistons that were fine.

What was your injector duty cycle?

My turbos are GT35 ebay clones. I knew going into turbos I would probably
break some stuff so cheap turbos and a cheap engine were on the menu.
I have no complaints whatsoever with these turbos.
My cam had the biggest effect on turbo lag until i put a looser converter in it.
Now it is pretty seemless. I went with a 4500 stall nitrous converter that I already had. If your cam isn't too radical, lag shouldn't be much of a problem.

Too rich (IMO), and too much timing for non intercooled 18 psi.

yeah but hes running e85, that should account for some temp control. too bad he didnt log it though.

to the OP, how much boost had you been running prior, and what was the tune like at that point in time?

get your iat' under 150, run 10.6-10.8 afr on gas scale with e85 and max 18degs. stay below 16lbs and it'll live forever.

Its not easy to log the change in air temp of the e85 being sprayed out of the injector anyways.

I have alittle experience with e85 and 5.3's. Ive put almost 30 psi to a stock motor that did go down the track quickly without blowing up.

Prior to this I was running 15 psi, 10.7 afr, 17 deg timing.
Yeah, I wish I had logged it, now its just speculation.

Looks like it went lean, torched a few pistons, and heated the rings on the other.

I am in the progress trying to blow up my 5.3 back up motor, non intercooled, E85, 30+ deg at 19-20lbs. 60+ full hard passes later on the street and its still running fine with no blow by.
