Contemplating some powdercoat for some 17's and 18's. How much does powdercoating usually cost for something like this?

My guy does mine at low cost and free to me haha

He charges $65 a wheel of in house colors (HUNDREDS) and if you want different you or he can get it. This includes the prep to. He did my intake, valve covers and race rims. All are sick.

So all said and done about $240 for all 4. I am guessing I will have to pay shipping as well. Hmmmm. Almost seems like trying to find a place locally to me would be in my best interest to save on $.

Anyone else have a different or similar price for powder coating?

Next question then; how does the powdercoat hold up compared to say having the wheels painted and clear coated? Which is stronger?

MUCH BETTER. Also will hold up to temp changes better and wont etch as easily. I have dropped countless things on my valve covers and intake and not a single chip. My old valve covers had nicks like crazy from dropping a ratchet twice

These are my track rims I just had done. They started out as silveer ZR1s 17x9.5 with +38mm offset.

I had them sprayed with Jollipop Orange since my car is atomic orange and these are just track rims. My TTMs are pretty etched so when I need new front tires Im going to get them coated black with this orange on the lip. Translucents are tricky to spray tho.

When you think white you have to choose WHICH white. I get my powder from powderbythepound.com
They have additives, trans, chameleon and more colors available. 4 wheels you should get 5lbs of powder

White is a simple color to shoot. Same with black. It hides alot of the runs.

I am not that picky. I know there are many different shades of white. Most of all of them would work fine.

This is going to come down more to the fact of trying to get this done without spending more than I want. The wheels I can get for a good price. However after shipping to me, and then shipping to the powdercoater, and then shipping back to me, I would probably spend more in shipping than I do in the price of the wheels.

The key would be to find a powdercoating place locally, and save on the shipping.

Might find a coater and have them shipped straight there if they dont have tires mounts. Then have the coaters ship to you.

I know my guy would be ok with that
He is the biggest place in texas and sees tons of work a week but with 3 ovens running all the time he gets it out quick. He wasnt to busy when I last talked to him

I know I could bypass the whole shipping to me first, but if you are getting wheels from someone, I guess I think you would want to see the actual condition first before having them arrive at the powdercoater and have him call you with possible concerns about their condition.

That would be silverghost aka the powderpro. He's a good guy to talk to about this. Haven't seen him around here lately though.
