Default My unoriginal turbo 5.3 '99 Crown Vic

Went
with the old full bolt on 2V setup, blew it up, decided I wanted to go faster, so I got a junkyard 5.3, and started to put stuff together.

Stock rotating assembly 2000 suburban motor 180K, ARP head bolts, cam, Lunati springs. TH400 trans, 76mm master power, E85, and a whole ####load of boost and timing.

All that's left is to order megasquirt and wire that, and wire all the gauges!

I have a similar swap planned, can't wait to see some numbers from your setup.

Looks like fun.
My use the Megasquirt? The stock PCM is quite capable of some serious boosted lunacy.

Because I didn't get the PCM with the motor, and the harness was cut to pieces. Plus, megasquirt will be cheaper.

When the car was Ford powered, did you have much done suspension wise to run that ET?

Because I didn't want to waste money paying someone to sump it, also, it was 14 years old and I didn't want to put the effort into cleaning it prior to putting E85 in it. Oh, and the cell was dirt cheap.

Nope, nothing that should have made it hook any better. It surprised a lot of people including myself.

The front springs had a half link cut out of them. I just wanted it to ride lower in the front. Only thing done to the suspension was some aluminum non adjustable rear control arms to help take the force of the heavy car, and some edlebrock IAS shocks.

Me and a buddy just found the instant center and it's 20" in front of the car, and 6 feet in the air. On paper, the car really shouldn't have hooked that good. We're just gonna say the track and tire did it.

I have some rear "lowering" springs on the way that are gonna drop it 2", and get the instant center inside the car, and lower. Gonna try to old setup first probably, and if not, save the springs and bring them to the track.

Thank you very much sir for sharing. I wasn't sure what i'll be running into on my swap once I get it to the track, and was very curious as to what suspension I was going to be needing.

That's where I live. Maybe you'll see me when I'm out. You'll probably come up to me and know who I am, and I'll have no clue who you are, and you'll be like "I'm that one guy in the LS1tech thread" and I'll be like "ohhhhh, I know who you are!" LOL!

Here's a pull from the other night when we beat the #@$% out of it. Working on playing with the timing to get the car to build boost on the footbrake with a two step. I'll take some track vids when I take it to the track. Trans and coolant temp were hovering around 215 by the time we were done! I guess that's what 3 guys from 200-250 plus my 150lb *** will do!

It was a 1.75 60'. The new setup seems slower from a dig, but once it gets into boost, all hell breaks loose.
