I have had two camaro's. The first was a 1998 V6 and my current is a 2002 Z28. Both of these have had a problem when slowing down from high speeds. When applying the brake the steering wheel shakes or "SHIMMYS" pretty badly. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a remedy?

Sounds like your rotors are warped. It seems to be a pretty common problem with the LS1's. If your car has less than 12K miles, the dealer should fix it, they did mine. All they did though was turn the rotors and put new pads on it. Give your dealer a call and let them know what's going on, and I'm sure they'll do something for ya, heck, they better, after all the money you spent with them, right?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I would first check your wheel nuts and make sure you tighten them up in a star pattern to 100 ft pounds..only think holding the rotors on there is the torque of the wheelnuts.I also have some shaking under hard braking and I have new kvr rotors so don't think they are warped..remember we have abs and you will notice some pulsing when you apply the brakes hard due to abs brakes..if really want to see shaking of the wheel under braking try my dads taurus...the ford abs just sucks in my opinion..ours is much better..I think some guys are mistaking the abs working for warped rotors..and not saying you might not have warped rotors..check them also.

It definately sounds as if your rotors are warped <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> I would not turn them more than once myself. The thing to think about is "Why is this happening and how can I prevent it from happening again? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> When you change or have your brakes changed put a non-directional finish on your rotors and more importantly torque all of your lug-nuts down to the same ft/lbs. I have aluminum wheels and tighten them to 100ft/lbs. It is very important that they all be the same <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I've had warped rotors on this thing since it was new. Turned 3 times. After turning of rotors, no shaking, but it returns. Now because they are to thin at 10,300 miles.

INSSANE

Turned twice for me and just got my car back tonight. Had NEW rotors put on. They couldn't turn them again even though it had been done, and new pads, 10,000 miles ago!
Hopefully the new ones are much better!

Mine started shaking bout 6000 miles...i let them go soo bad that my front tires started finning...i had the rotors turned and balance and alignment...Then went to 47000 and its starting to warp again...but the pads are in very good shape, so im not hard on the brakes at all...i think GM makes generic rotors....im putting aftermarkets on later on...but from what i hear, lots of camaros have this same problem....
GM, what were you thinking putting cheap rotors on a bitchin car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Hehe, i couldnt afford the Baer setup so i bought a set of "Roto-Tech" crossdrilled and slotted rotors. They may seem cheap, but they are good quality and i havent had any problems.. plus my stopping distance has reduced significantly. No more brake fade tryin to stop right after topping out the car...
