My car recently died while driving it. The codes that were stored were the 2 for my rear O2s and a PO342 - Camshaft Positioning sensor low input. The car turns over, but wont start. I can hear the fuel pump cycle. I am kind of thinking that I broke the timing chain. Would this code be a symptom of that ?? Where is the camshaft positioning sensor ? Tomorrow I will pull a valve cover and turn the car over. If the valves dont move then that is my problem.

Yep, had the same thing on friday - timing chain.

If you remove the oil fill cap, you can likely see a rocker enough to realize it is not moving.

You may also notice that it cranks more quickly due to lack of compression in some or all cylinders.

Cool. Not that bad of a swap. it could be worse. Are you running heads/cam.

So far it doesnt appear that I bent any valves. I checked the driver side and the they seem to hold air. When I release the hose all the pressure comes out the fitting in the spark plug hole. I will check the passenger side tomorrow.

Take off the oil fill cap.

If you snap a chain you will bend a bunch of valves.

I did that last year.

I had that sensor fail, it's been my only problem so far with the car, Your symptom is exactly what I had and the same code. Pep Boys couldn't figure it out (no code), my friend with a diagnostic couldn't figure it out (no code), the dealer found it in 10 minutes. The tech told me that that code sometimes won't show itself, he changed it out, if I remember correctly it was $43.00 and it ran perfect again. I also had 6 other codes which were coils and wires, but it was all caused by the "Crankshaft Position Censor". Nothing was damaged. However, he said major damage could happen if I kept trying to drive it like that. Mine would both suddenly die or drive OK for a little while (maybe 10 minutes) and then die. Sometimes it wouldn't start for 6-8 tries in a row.

When I turn the car over the valves dont move so I am pretty sure its the timing chain.

Yeah we do. I just pulled everything out of the car today. Heads, radiator, Cam etc.. The timing chain was definitely busted and I bent at least 2 valves on each side. So the heads are going back to MMS to get setup by them. So is the cam, because I am getting the big daddy 229v2.1. It only took my friend Lino and I 3 .5 hours to tear the car down.
