Default LS6 SWAP???

Anyone have any info on swapping an LS6 in an LS1 F body?? I know the thing will bolt right in, but will the wiring/ECM be compatible with the F bod?? Dont want to chop the wires to make it work. Thanks

stock computer and everything will work.
keep in mind you can have much more power with ported heads, an aftermarket cam, headers and a few bolt ons. which would probably cost about the same as a ls6 swap.

I have considered this as well. I think that if you have a bad engine the LS6 route is one to be considered. Depending on whom you buy the engine from there is no more than $400 difference in price between the LS1 and LS6. In fact one place is selling the 2002 LS6 and LS1 for the same price (~$4,700).

Are they GM crate engines for sale? Or is it a rebuild for $4700?? A new LS6 from a dealer is around $8000.

Blowers are fun, but expensive and have no warranty. If I sell the stock LS1 and buy a crate engine then there is 405HP,brand new engine with full warranty for less $$. But Im up for options, just thinking of something different to do. Thanks for the info John, but if I decide to do this, I would need the complete setup. I pretty much have the stock LS1 sold, but with all the bolt ons. Ill have to do some looking ans see how much it would be to buy them seperate. Probably a lot.

How much more power can you get out of a LS6 over LS1? Let's say you max out both NA.

I am planning on doing this swap in my '99 Firebird. I was hoping the new engine would come with an intake, since I don't have an LS6 intake yet.

I would like to get the heads ported and install a cam before the I put the engine in the car. How much power would I be giving up by staying with the stock lightweight valves as opposed to installing larger stainless valves?

I would also like the head work and cam selection done with nitrous use in mind, as a 225HP 2-stage setup will be installed soon. Would this amount of nitrous warrant a different Intake/Exhaust valve ratio? I understand that exhaust flow is normally more than sufficient for N/A applications, as seen by the current work with reverse split cams, but with addition of a reasonable quantiy of nitrous, would something along the lines of 2.00" Intake and 1.625" Exhaust be overkill?

The car is an A4 with a ST3800, so as far as cam selection, I'd like something without a lot of driveabilty issues. I was thinking somewhere around 224/224 and .580/.580 on a 113LCA. Any thoughts?

The car will definately receive dyno tuning, so that should help alleviate any problems.

Thanks,
Mike

I just had a crate LS6 installed in my 1999 T/A. I also had a hammer cam installed. The only thing you need to do is change the oil pan to the F-Body oil panl and do something about the EGR. The SLP LS6 intake leaked, so I just used the LS6 manifold that came on the new engine and blocked off the EGR., and had the EGR code deleted. tock tuning is fine, you just need to raise the rev limiter. I dynoed at 378rwhp/366tq.

99 WS7 what do you have as far as mods? Just the cam or others? I am wondering what an LS6 with the hammer cam, headers, Borla, lid, stage 2 LS6 heads, and an 85mm MAF will do. I would like to think around 450 rwhp but I'm not sure. I know there's other things different in a LS6 to a LS1 but the major difference is in the heads and cam I think. So technically an LS1 with LS6 heads and a cam will produce just as much power as a LS6 with the same options. I'm not sure so I'm probably wrong.

You can buy the short block, the long block, or the complete motor with everything. I bought mine from Pheonixpontiac.com You can use your LS1 manifod, but you won't be getting the full HP potential.

The 02 engine would be the way to go based on the coatings and rings on and in the pistons.

99 WS-7,

I see that you installed the 2001 LS6 in your car. So that engine comes with the intake manifold? From what I have read, the 2002 version does not. Aside from the horsepower loss, would there be a problem using my LS1 intake when I do the swap? I imagine I would have to block off the EGR port.

I may just install a cam at his point instead of getting the heads ported. I'm sure with the new LS6 heads, 400rwhp is attainable with the right cam. I am now leaning towards the TR224/227 Nitrous cam.

Thanks,
Mike

All LS1's after 2001 have LS6 blocks and intakes. The difference between the LS1 block and the LS6 block is strength and oil windage passages for higher rpm potential. Stock LS1 tuning should not work well on the 02' ZO6 engine due to chanes in the cam (more aggressive). Stock 02' ZO6's are dynoing in the range of 365-375 RWHP. Tuning matters! I have a '02 ls6 in mine. Check the sig. Still needs tuning though but one hell of a "street motor".

So where can you get a LS6 Z06 crate engine from? I plan on buying 1 for a 3rd gen Z28
