Default Pat Musi - 383 LS1

Did anyone see the article in the Winter 2002 Hot Rod publication, ENGINES?

It has a Pat Musi built 383 LS1 article.

He left most of the engine stock!
Some minor port polishing of the heads, new drop-in valves, new cam and Luniti rotating essembly

...power is about 440HP

Pat Musi typically quotes his HP at the crank, not at the rear wheels (RWHP). 440hp = about 385-390 rwhp.

I don't like the Car Rags for tech article but I bought the issue in question for that particular article. As far as the heads just having "drop in valves" well think again. Look at the ports they have had quite a bit of material removed. I was not impressed, but I would have like to have seen a dyno sheet with the juice on.

I think I am the only person with this engine. No one else I have ever come across has the Pat Musi 383 LS1. I am putting down 430RWHP with this engine and there is still a lot to go. I need to get some wideband O2 dyno tuning to free up my hidden horses. Let me know if you want to know anymore details about this engine. I had it built almost 2 and a half years ago so today's heads are probably lightyears ahead. Oh well, what can you do...that's the price you pay for being one of the first strokers on the block!

CAT3 - hehe, military guy, huh...sure, no problem, I'll get those to your email address soon. Just gotta dig up that info.

383ss - I think I could put down another 15-20RWHP with the right cam. I am running an EXTREMEMLY small cam for the 383 (218/227) and it just isn't pulling it's wieght. I would like to go to the X1 but don't have the time or money right now. Soon, hopefully.

Oh, and the dyno sheet from my engine with the juice on (100 shot) was absolutely magnificent. With that cam, the 218/227, the nawwwwwws (hehe) was a beautiful thing, the car put down almost 600RWHP on that pull. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I was one of the first also and with just a cam and header swap I'm putting out 456 rwhp 435 rwtq UNTUNED!!! My heads were hand ported by a local guy 2.5 years ago (project 382 was started 3.5 years ago) and cost me just $800!!! not bad, I guess...

my new 236/232 has a nice lope to it and still idles fine at 850 or so.
