Yup, itll reduce the chances of det. buy increasing the octane level. Ask parish about the link for the fuel mixes. Xylene is used in octane boost which you buy at the store. I just wonder if it harms your injectors,o2 sensors, and cats....@ a 30% mixture.

i would like to know about the harm to rubber part, that is the first bad thing i have heard about it. zylene is an ingredant in octane boosters and in some race gas. here is the link http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html

i have added 5 full gallons 5 times now and haven't seen any side effects yet, i am going with right at a 30% mix. i also have no cats

it really seems to work and is cheap, 92 costs almost $2.00 now, the zylene can be had for $4.00/gal, so to end up with 15gallons of 100 octane only cost me about $40, vs actual 100octane fuel at $4.00?/gallon x 15 = $60.00

i did a bunch of runs one day and here is what i came up with.

6psi 92 gas, no knock
8psi 92 gas, full 8deg of KR continuas
8psi with 30% zylene added to 92, no knock
11psi with 30% zylene added to 92, spike of 8deg KR but tapering thru the run

i don't have a 9 or 10 lb pully but i bet i could get away with at least a 9psi pully based on that days runs.

I have been using it for years in my turbo buicks and have never had a problem.it is like 118 octain but it don't have any lubricant in it so i have allways put 4 oz of mystry oil for every gallon. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

You're not going to have any problems using xylene. It's a high end aromatic hydrocarbon, that's already used in gasoline. You're just uppin' the concentration. I have used it for awhile in a number of my cars.It is highly carcinogenic (cancer causing). I would use rubber gloves while you pour it into the tank. The stuff is not cheap by any means either. It sells retail for about $10/gal. If you get it by the five gallon drum it costs around $7-$8/gal. This is from a paint supply business. It wouldn't make sense from an economical sense to run it every tankful unless you race. You won't harm your injectors or anything else. I don't care what anybody else says. It really only shows it's magic when you get around 2.5 gallons and above per tankful. Less than that, and your just pissin' in the wind. Have fun!

One other tid bit for anybody that is interested. You can make your own fuel injector cleaner by, adding one cup of mineral spirits at refueling to your gas. This will clean your injectors. It will make your catalytic converters run hot. So, you only use it for a maintenance reason.

i buy it at the local paint store, sherwin williams, for $20 for 5 gallons. he also told me i might be able to get it for ~$3.00/gallon if i wanted to order a drum.

I've seen quite a few guys throw in 3-4oz of Marvel mystery oil as a lubricating agent. So rubber o-rings will not dry out.

I had just ran the tank a little low on gas, not that it was intentional. So when I went to add xylene, I was basically on an empty tank. It ran like a different machine, excellent throttle repsonse, and it had a really tight feel. I wouldn't run it straight for any long period of time. You might want to change your fuel filter, any way, just to make sure your fuel system is in tip top shape. I think in the end, at least for me, economically, it was a waste of money.

None of that is going to prove anything, because you won't be running it straight for any lenghth of time. It will be mixed in with the pump gas. It won't be any different than race fuel. All those parts will be able to handle it, because they already do. Xylene is in the gas that you get at the gas station.
