Default Transmission flush worth it??

j/wing cause the local shop just got one of those machines. 80BUCKS for a dang flush. Question is, does it help anything?? I change my filter and fluid like every 6-9kmiles also so isnt that better than a flush??

A flush does ALOT more complete job but if you're changing the fluid that often I wouldn't worry about it UNLESS you're really pushing the limits of the tranny.

Is the flush a BG flush? If so I would highly recommend this flush. We use BG at Honda and so so most domestic dealerships. We are apart of Hendrick Autogroup and I know that Hendrick Chevrolet uses the BG flush. The BG flush actually adds a treatment that prolongs the life of the tranny (under factory loads ). Keep up the great maintance!

If you change the filter & fluid every 10k miles, no need for the flush. You can do a ghetto flush by using an extra case of fluid and just letting it pump through too.

It is fine for exchanging fluid but all it does is gives a false sense of security.

When you do an oil change on your engine, do you only change the oil?

What about the most important part of a trans fluid change - THE FILTER. Most or the contaminants in the fluid end up in the filter. A partially clogged filter will starve the front pump of the tranny so that it cant provide full apply pressure to the clutches. The clutches will slip and your trans wipes out.

Granted, dropping the oil pan and changing the filter is not nearly as easy as hooking up the flushing machine but it is necessary if you want your trans to last. I think charging $80 for only doing 1/3 of the job is a rip off!!!

My ghetto flush includes taking off one of the lines off the trans cooler and letting it drain out. Turning the engine over will create a trans fluid fire hose too You need a friend for that one

I have also checked & changed filters on flush maintained transmissions & they are spotless. It is the best method.

I will say again. BG flush is great. I wasn't sure if shops used BG services nationwide or how popular it was. Glad to see people using the machine. The BG treatment actually breaks up any contaminats that might be in the system. $80 bucks is a deal!!

The place I take my car to flushes the transmission and then drops the pan, cleans it spotless, replaces the gasket and filter and then fills the tranny back up again. All this for $85. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

The MAJOR factor that effects transmission performance is the additives in the fluid. When the fluid gets old(burnt), and the additives are used up, the fluid can't operate the transmission properly. This flush procedure is the ONLY way to properly exchange ALL the fluid in the transmission. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone with an A4. This can (and has) actually save a badly slipping tranny, or one that doesn't shift properly. It is expensive (we charged $100) but alot cheaper than a new 4L60E!!

BTW: there are machines similar to the BG unit, but rather than addding NEW fluid, they just FILTER your fluid and pump it back into your tranny. Make sure the shop you go to has a machine (like the BG) that uses NEW fluid!

A filter change is a very good idea as is cleaning the crap off the magnet in the tranny pan. I don't know how just a flush could clean the filter or remove the crap on the magnet.

For everyone that replaces the filter when they change the fluid:

Do you replace the seal that goes around the neck of the filter, or just yank the old filter out and stick in the new one?

I have replaced my filter once, and found that getting the old seal out was a major pain in the A$$!

Just wondering...
