Default 1LE 21mm Rear Sway Bar Discontinued!

Looks like it's no more. I've tried two GM houses and they tell me that part #10021221 has been discontinued. They are also gone from SLP web site and inventory.

Have these 21mm rear sway bars now turned into a "like finding gold" item similar to the 1LE front springs?

Anybody know where to get a new one?

You can get Sam Strano's rear bar, which is 22mm. I took my 1LE rear swaybar off because it made the car understeer too much. I'm running 32mm up front (1LE) and stock rear (19mm). Car handles great, but it damn well better with all the stuff I've done to it.

Do you mean oversteer too much? Usually, people step down the bar size in the rear because of oversteer, not under.

DUH! Yeah. Wrong term, right solution.

It happens...it is pretty interesting that the 21mm bar has been discontinued. I wonder what other parts will stop being produced...

What's the difference between a 1LE bar and any other rear bar? A bar is a bar to me when it comes to swaybars, given the same size. A strano, bmr, spohn, etc in the 21-22 mm range would all work fine. I wouldn't get a BMR panhard rod or some other BMR stuff, but the swaybar is fine since it's just a solid piece of metal.

Really that's true, but I figure why haul around the weight if you don't have too. I have both solid and hollow 22mm rear bars, there is about a $40 price difference which saves you about 5-6 pounds and the hollow bars come with bigger, beefier end-links too (since I specified those, which I don't do on the regular Addco 22mm solid bar). Also, you save a few bucks ($5-ish) on shipping on the hollow bar, just because it's lighter, FWIW. So the as delivered difference is about $35 and 6 pounds give or take vs. a solid of the same size.

Also, note that my bar is really equivilent to a 21 solid, a 22 solid is marginally stiffer.... And that was done on purpose.

And that's why I'd get the Strano 22mm hollow rear if I could go back and change my mind. For weight reduction.

And FWIW it's not just weight, but it's also unsprung weight too. Not only do you save a few pounds, but the car reacts better over imperfections too since there is just a little less mass to move and control. Not a HUGE change given the weight of the axle and all, but then again every bit helps because you actually end up lighter than stock, not heavier, which can even make DeCarbon's work a little better.

I know the front and rear 1LE springs are also discontinued from GM. It seems that some of thse 1LE parts come back up through buyers who purchase old GM inventory like Gyrhead. You can get the 1LE OEM rear springs from them and 1LE front say bars on ebay. Once these 2nd round offering of new old parts are gone they will most likely be gone for good.

I do not think many people will lose sleep over this bar (at least not me). There are too many options to replace it out there with.
