Default WS6 Package?

I just got my car. I thought the WS6 pkg was just a handling pkg. Someone told me there were performance mods in the pkg. Is that correct?

Yes there are a couple. The exhaust is less restrictive than a stock Trans Am and the airbox is a little more free-flowing (Ram Air). Your car should have the Ram Air hood too which is more for looks than anything else.

Do they have a different EGR I was going to do the free mod off ls1.com but it looks to be different.

WS6 is just wheels, tires, suspension, exhaust, and air intake.

From the MAF back it's the same as any other LS1 F-Body

98-2000 will have an EGR
2001-2002 will not have an EGR (since they come with the LS6 intake)
The above applies for all F-Bodies, not WS6 specific

So judging by your screen name.. i'm guessing your car's an 02? in that case you don't have an EGR so no need to do !EGR

it has wheels you'll change anyway,
tires you'll change anyway,
suspension you'll change anyway,
exhaust you'll change anyway,
and an air intake you'll change anyway.

so you're paying $5000 for a nice hood
and to be able to say, "i have a ram air"

hey, "i have a ram air" sounds better then, "i paid $5k extra for crap i gutted out anyway"

btw, it isnt even real "ram air"
"ram air" *rams* *air*
funnel like
like the FTRA or BGRA or SSRA
but *not* the WS6 "ram air"
how much hp or et difference with the WS6 "intake system" anyway? anyone document that one?

$5k to say "i have a WS6"

When I bought my '01 T/A new, the price difference was almost 4K (i got a gm supplier discount) this would have made the car payment an extra $80 or so a month for us.
IMO It wasn't worth the money (per month) just to have the WS6 package.
Granted the hood looks awesome and so does the rims, but you can find used WS6 rims all over this forum real cheap and you can buy you an aftermarket ram air hood for less than $700 (unpainted). I am not knocking the WS6 'ers out there by no means, but when it comes down to it, it's all about the money, what you can afford and what you want......just my $.02

For what it's worth, I think the WS.6 package is the coolest factory package available for any car if you aren't going to mod. 17" chrome wheels that are awesome, 275 tires, better catback and lid, slightly upgraded suspension. It would have been really cool if it was SLP so you could get all the SS SLP options from the dealer. Firehawks are so rare (at least around here) but SS's and WS6's are plentiful.

StoneOfFire is right,

I bought a stock 02 T/A convert. for $5000.less then a WS6.I then put a lid, exhaust and some gears in it for less then $1000.

I love racing stock WS6s at grudge night because they think their car is faster then mine because it has Ram Air

I like having the stock hood,it makes for kind of a sleeper. The look on their faces when i beat them is priceless...they think it's a Firebird(no spoiler on convert.)...no T/A lettering on the car.

There will not be an EGR on your car if it is the 02 because it is not a true LS1. It is actually a LS6 short block and intake with LS1 heads. The LS6 intake does not use the EGR. It also breaths better then the LS1. So do not go out and by a LS6 intake or you will find yourself being screwed.

Never heard of that. Where did you hear it from? I thought only a couple of hundred of the 02 LS1's got a LS6 block. I have a 2001 Ws6 with no EGR and you tell me that it's not a true LS1?

10% of the 2001 F-bodies came with the LS6 block. No different from the LS1, except for the casting material, aparently it disipates heat beter, and runs cooler. And about 15-20% of the 2002 F-bodies came with the LS6 block.

Why are you guys talking about how it was a $4k to 5k factory option when they stopped making the cars over 7 years ago, and dissing it? lol. Kinda stupid to me.

Anyone now is buying these cars used, in which case, hoenstly WS6 doesn't make it worth any more whatsoever, so you're paying the same price (if you're looking to buy) for a T/A or a WS6, but 1's got some bells and whistles plus you can say you have a WS6

In other words, why the hell WOULDN'T you buy a WS6 instead of a T/A now?
