LS6 Valley Pan vs. Catch Can? Did the LS6 Valley Pan mod to my 2002 LS1 block. Is there any need for a catch can now? I have noticed a smaller amount of oil/gas mix in my intake since I did the mod. The LS6 Valley Pan has the nipple coming out of the fron of the block next to the nipple on the intake, and I've simply connected a hose to the two nipples.

I have a hose off the valley cover to the top of the catch can then off the side of the AMW can back to the PCV valve right before the intake. Using the truck PCV valve. Very little oil loss but I do have to dump the catch can every 4 months or so. When I empty it, it's a very small amount, maybe 3 tablespoons worth. I also keep 6 quarts in it at all times. I followed the picture from ls1howto.com and inserted the catch can in-between.
Are you at least using the PCV valve? From your description it sounds like you have a 10" hose looped from nipple to nipple.

Even after I swapped to an LS6 Valley cover, I still kept my catch can on. Tried the truck PCV valve, and it whistled (wasn't having any of that) and still spat oil in my catch can. Switched back to the stock style PCV valve (check type), and it still spits a little oil, but at least it doesn't whistle. I get about a tablespoon of oil in my catch can per oil change interval....
Bottom line - I'd recommend keeping it on there. My overall oil consumption is way down, but I don't know if I'd attribute that to any one thing...probably a combination of everything I've tried.

I'd agree with Meent...I'd keep the can. I haven't done the LS6 VP mod, but I did invest in a NLP can and it really helped my consumption. I usually empty it with each oil change...

OK, I'm really beating a dead horse here but I'm getting confused.
It has been so long since I converted to the LS6 setup I forgot how the original LS1 PCV setup goes.
But on ls1howto.com, they show the PCV right before the nipple on the intake. So it loops out of the valley cover, to the PCV fat end and the thin end of the PCV valve goes right to the intake. Like slt200mph. On MeentSS02, it is right as it comes off the valley cover.
Which is right?

This whole catch can thing is kinda new to me.. I have a question. If you keep up with your cars maintenance like you should, and change the oil and or check it regular, why would you need one??? Is it bad for the engine?? Or what?
Sorry for the questions, just trying to find out the benifit of having one..
