Default Wrongful EZPass violation

So, I got a ticket in the mail today for an EZPass violation. This is so screwed up, but there doesn't seem to be a way to appeal it.

I got off the PA turnpike at the Harrisburg interchange. It's under constructions right now, there were 2 lanes open, and both said "EZ-Pass or Cash" on the top. I stopped, paid the $.90 toll (I was only on for 1 exit, just cutting across the river from 83 to 283 using the turnpike), and then drove off.

I'm not sure what happened next, if the toll operator didn't turn off the EZPass camera or what, but it took a picture of my plate, and I just got a fine today in the mail (2 weeks later).

I know for a fact that I stopped and paid the toll to a real person but I don't have a receipt, and I can't prove it. My $.90 toll turned into the max toll of $12.25 plus a $25.00 administrative fee.

Does anyone know how to appeal it? Am I SOL here, or can I plead my case to someone? Surely I'm not the only one this has happened to during the construction phase at this particular exit.

Help?

Thanks, I'll start there.

I think I was asking just to see if my chances are actually decent that they'll listen to my story, or if they'll think I just full of it and trying to get out of paying.

Lesson learned, I'll always be asking for receipts from here on out.

I ran into a similar problem not too long ago where the frigin lane was green and no ez-pass sign was there and no toll person was in the booth so after sitting there a minute I left because I had no choice and bam a $40 fine.

My wife had the same thing happen to her. When she pulled up to the booth there was no one inside. So she went through, this was after honking a couple times because she thought the person was bending down or sleeping, whatever.

Anyway, when she got the ticket, she called the number and the fines were dropped. I guess they knew that the person wasn't there or something.

Call and good luck.
