Default Powerglide in a LS1. What do ya'll think?

I want to put a powerglide in the Hot Rod. This is what I have wanted to do since the switch from a manual to a auto trans.

My Hot Rod is a track only car.

I want the best trans set up I can have. I need to have the car run the number(what ever it is 6.70's to 7.20's 1/8 mile) everytime down the track.

I like the fact that if I put a PG in her I only have to make one shift. This means more consistant runs :p

My trans guy said he can make me a manual shift power glide if I bring him back the turbo 350 that has only 1 pass on it. I will not have to pay any extra money for the glide. He even said he can make the glide use my turbo 350 convertor that only has 1 pass on it.

What do you guys & gals think?

You need a couple of things with the glide

transbrake obviously

Probably a little more stall

Probably a little more gear

Nitrous cars tend to like glides as they come off the converter well and the hit isnt as hard.

I personally think you'll be faster with the TH350 off the brake.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

No Transbrakes. :p I run in the no electronics class. Footbrake only.

5200 stall, 5.14 gears. I think I have this covered. :p

The TH350 will be a little quicker, the A2 should make a little more trap speed, but will feel much more "doggish," especially footbraking it...

I had a 'glide behind my ARE 382 for awhile, if you remember. There honestly wasn't much difference in ET. Whatever you do, do not use a stock 1.82 planetary!

if he is willing to make you a glide for the cost of your 350, then it isnt a very stout glide he would be making

also i would not use your 350 converter with the glide. to get the car off the line with a 1.72 first gear you will need some more RPM off the line than what the 350 combo called for (nevermind, just noticed you already have a pretty high stall speed)

personally, i think a glide is the way to go. especially in a high HP car that is hard to control the first few hundred feet

I have one Coach. I love it.

Dedenbear case, Rossler Pro power glide with a Rossler pro trans brake. 1.96 1st gear with 4.86 gears out back.

Very consistant tranny for bracket racing. I have the PRO Bandit shifter for the power glide but this shifter is challanging to install to say the least. I would use the Pro Ratchet for the power glide if I had to do it over again.

Thanks guys.

I can't run a transbrake.

I run in no electronics footbrake class.

We are thinking about a 1.83 1st gear.

PowerGlide = boring, they just don't feel quick.

That's my opinion

Coach The majority of the big buck footbrake racers use powerglides. When my 4l60e gives me trouble i'm going with a glide. I enjoy the win light on in my lane more than going a little quicker But you'll have to change your sig to Coach 02 A2 Z28. Frank95z
