Why does my starter keep going OUT???

Why does my starter keep going OUT??? Hello,
So here is the deal, I have a 94 Z with a starter problem.
When I bought the car with 128k mi. on it, It had signs of the starter going bad but it turned on everytime, until about three weeks ago. It gave up
So I went down to AutoZone got a replacement, and have had nothing but problems with it, replaced it five time already...
I do not know if its the starter from autozone or something else from the car..
Should I just get my money back and get one from the dealer???

What are the symptoms? Are they testing the starters you're returning and confirming that they're bad? Unless you're extremely unlucky, or they got a bad batch of starters at one time, I would suspect something other than the starters.

Yes they are testing the starters and confirming that they are bad..
I really dont know where else to look. The car has Headers and I have wrapped the starter with a heat jacket that I bought from autozone.
The fourth one I got was bad from the counter, but all the others have started just fine they last about three or four starts then three of them that I pu on dont stop spinning I have to go in and disconnect the battery.

Since You have headers I would suggest getting a Corvette starter. People call it a LT4 starter it is smaller so it will be away from the headers and makes it easier to change spark plugs.

Thats really weird, check the wiring and make sure the batter has full voltage when you go to install the starter. I have seen notes that say if you install a starter with low battery voltage it can hurt the, dont know how, but I have seen that on several web sites that sell starters

I dont think anything else is bad, cause everything else was fine before the other starter went out. Maybe im just getting bad remanu. starters from autozone maybe i need to try the dealer one for 300 dollars.

My freind had bad luck with autozone starters, they have the warranty but who wants to take them back all the time.
I went to napa a year ago and havent had problems

I can shed a little light on the situation.
First when they give you a starter have them check it before ever leaving.
Second if there is too low a volatge to ANY motor it will cause it to prematurely fail. However 3-4 starts is very over dramatic regardless of the voltage.
Check to make sure your wiring is correct, and that the ground is secured, it attaches to the side of the block and it is needed!

^^ Most of the time I've seen no shimming needed for LT1 motors, but on occassion it is necessary. I've only read about one Duralast LT1 Vette Spec'd starter failure so far, and the guy wasn't sure why it went to hell.

I got my car out of long term storage a little over a year ago and the starter went bad while we were trying to get it running. I got a replacement at Autozone. It's still working, but my car has been on jack stands for about a year and isn't being started on a daily basis.

Mine was hard on starters also. I think the combo of LTs and high compression was causing the problem. I bought a high torque starter from NAPA and it works much better. It wasn't cheap though ...
