This has been a problem for a while now. Car runs and drives fine, just makes this ticking sound. I can't get a definate answer on ANYTHING with it. I finally got around to taking a vid of it and posting. Any comments or suggestions or anything for that matter would be greatly appreciated!

I can't see the vid cause I'm on dial-up here. But if its a constant ticking, or light clatter, its your valves. Mine need to be re-adjusted.

Lifters. When my truck does that it means it wants a oil change. Make sure your headers are on good. That could possibly be it also.

make sure the air pipe on the header is on tight and your header bolts are tight.I had an exhaust leak on my edelbrock shorties and it didn't sound nothing close to your vid....im thinking it's something else,maybe lifters or rockers.

the thing is, i used to have major header leaks, so i know what they sound like. they'd pop hard under acceleration and make all sorts of noise. this is just little consistent ticking sound thats very annoying.

it does kinda sound like a very small exhaust leak to me, but could be your lifter, crank your car when it is cold, and go around your headers and under neath your car and feel around your exhaust in the area it is ticking and see if you cant feel a small blast of air or something just dont tough the header lol!

small exhaust leak..with it being that fast im goana say its at the primaries its distint id say at least 2 are leaking maybe all 4

I just bought a 96 trans am a week ago and there is a ticking noise at certain rpms. I was told it was an exhaust leak. It doesn't sound much like your video. How and where would you go about checking for an exhaust leak? And how would you fix it?

exhaust leak will sound like a lawn mower when you're excelarating. If it sounds like a lawn mower than its a leak. If not get your valve readjusted (i think its his valves)

I am going to +1 on this responce...Its too hard to tell from the vid, but I would take a socket to those header bolts and see if any bolts are loose. Then, go from there. Might be valve train related, but it is easier to identify an exhaust leak.

yeha, even im heading more towards valves now too. i had the lawnmower thing, and it already took me 3 tries to get that side to seal. so im going with either valve or lifter.

Does the noise increase when you accelerate? I had a ticking noise, found the leak, and it didn't sound like the noise in your video.

The best thing to do is open up the valve covers and thoroughly check all the rocker arms. If they are all secured, then I would think you might have stuck lifter(s). It doesn't sound to me like an exhaust leak. Good luck.

I believe some have tried rizlone for lifters. I have not. If it is stuck and not working properly, then replacement is next.

well i hope if it is a lifter that it can wait because im planning a cam install this summer and i dont want to have to buy another set of lifters aside from the set ill already be buying
